Daytime beach parking, large campers unwelcome

Not recommended. Large campers (anything bigger than a VW bus) are not welcome here. The police also come by fairly often. The laws on wild camping were significantly tightened at the beginning of 2025, and heavy fines may be imposed.

You feel safe since around 10 other campers were present in the area. Beautiful location. We went to get the bus tickets to Samaria Gorge from the bakery which was still open at 8pm. Bus leaves from Sougia at 7am and takes you to Omalos/Xyloskalo - starting point of the Samaria Gorge. The hike is 16km long to the shore of Agia Roumeli where we bought ferry tickets back to sougia leaving 5.30pm.

Great place, but unfortunately it has been reduced by half with a wooden fence. Around 10 motorhomes still have enough space. We were there in mid-October. It was quite full. Do not follow the sat-nav or Google Maps. They lead you astray. At the beginning of the village, turn left downhill. Then you are in the right place.

Very beautiful place directly on the beach. Very open; nudism is possible for those who wish. Very nice camper community, friendly, inexpensive and very good tavernas, and a good starting point for the Samaria Gorge. Highly recommended! Thanks to the municipality and the Greeks.

Great place for camping, nudist section of the beach. There's no shade (just 3 small trees). We continued eastward by ferry to Sfakia. €30 per person and €10 per meter of motorhome length.

This is much more than a car park. There were 6 motorhomes lined up along the beach, and there was still room. A little before arriving at this place, there are campers in tents on the beach, with toilets and a beach shower. There is also a very nice taverna on site.

A fantastically beautiful place on the beach. There is indeed a sign, but many campers, tents and cars. Despite there being many people, it is very quiet. Shower on the beach farther along. Beautiful bay. Very cosy and friendly village along the coast. You can take the bus to the Samaria Gorge. Unfortunately, it was still closed when we were there. Later opening this year due to the worse weather last week. We had two wonderful nights.

A nice place, but there is a big sign ”please don’t park there it’s for nature” and an arrow for a place they want people to park. Anyway seems that nobody cares, about 10 german campers in a row.so that’s that.
