21/2 Altjoch, 82431, Kochel am See
Been here?
This campsite lies directly on Lake Kochel, with its own lake access, grassy and gravel pitches, and many shaded areas. A small restaurant and grocery shop are available, and the B11 is far enough away that traffic noise is generally inaudible. Recent reports describe the site as quiet and natural, but pitches are small and the sanitary facilities are partly dated, although generally clean. Dogs are not allowed at the beach, in the lake, or in the restaurant.

The location right by the lake is the best thing about this campsite. It was always quiet. Unfortunately, the pitches are very small, and everyone walks not only across their own pitch but also stares persistently into the campers. Never experienced anything like it. All the prohibition signs are also off-putting. You have to pay extra for showers; it is a wonder they do not charge separately for using the toilet.
Great location. Anyone who loves camping as it was 40 years ago will surely find it great too. The glamping barrels do nothing to change this assessment. Anything but dog-friendly. Even when the dog is small and constantly on a leash. They are simply afraid the dog will poop on the beach. Electricity is charged at a flat rate, yet you depend on the pitch attendant to plug it in.
We stayed here for two nights. The women's bathroom has been renovated. The men's bathroom belongs to another era, but is generally very clean. Access to the lake is great!
Simple and quiet campsite! The sanitary facilities are dated, but thanks to P4N8 I knew that beforehand and it is reflected in the price. In return, there is quick access to the lake with places to lie on the grass. Completely fine for one or two nights... the location ultimately made it a lovely experience for me.
Unsuitable for dog owners. Dogs cost €4. The operator is very taciturn. We did not feel welcome. The site was noisy. Football was played between the motorhomes and people constantly walked across other pitches. Some sanitary facilities are very old. Actually a beautiful place.
This place definitely deserves a better rating than just 3.6! Yes, it is not the most modern or cheapest, but it is idyllically and peacefully located next to the mountains. Separate and well-maintained sanitary facilities. Changing daily specials. And honestly, there are other sites with smaller pitches, so what?! My luxury problem: more choice at the kiosk, but that is hardly worth making a fuss about. Recommended!
A campsite for unwinding, beautifully located right by the lake.
To my mind, the site is designed without much care—apart from all the prohibition signs shouting at you from the entrance, the operators seem to have put little effort into it. Some sanitary facilities are old but clean. The site scores points for its beautiful natural surroundings, but not much else. It was very cramped with the neighbors and busy in mid-June. Not my thing. I will not return.
Beautiful campsite in a great location between the lake and mountains, with a small beach. However, not very suitable for dog owners: dogs are allowed neither on the beach nor in the water, nor in the restaurant. To walk the dog, you first have to walk for quite a while along a road without a sidewalk before reaching forest paths. Price: €54 for two people and a dachshund for one night. Disappointing for dog owners.
The campsite is beautifully located. The sanitary facilities are basic but well maintained. Hot-water showers cost €1. The operator is somewhat taciturn but friendly. Not a classic camper crowd—more like newbie campers. People simply walk across the site even when our dog is lying there. At one point, a strange dog suddenly stood in front of our motorhome door on a retractable leash. Fortunately, our female dog is very relaxed.
Rather unsuitable for dog owners, as dogs are prohibited everywhere. No access to the shore, no swimming, etc. Otherwise quite nice, but simply not for us. Infrastructure consists only of the campsite restaurant; otherwise there is nothing!
This campsite is, for us, the most idyllically located one on Lake Kochelsee/Walchensee. The operators are absolutely friendly and accommodating. The site is clean and well maintained. Highly recommended. Note: I cannot understand the partly whiny reviews. We will definitely come back here.
Simple site with nice staff. Minus point for the lack of supplies: apart from bread rolls, there is not much, and the nearest supermarket is far away. The restaurant only offers hot meals, mostly very fatty, apart from goulash soup.
Very nice campsite directly on the water, friendly staff and very clean sanitary facilities. At €43 for a motorhome and two people, top rating ☆☆☆☆☆
Great site with a small private beach and beer garden. Wonderful view over the lake. Lovely operators who try to help with everything. Site and sanitary facilities clean. Despite the continuous rain, we had a lovely time here.
Very nice site right by the lake. You can watch the sunset there and swim really well. We stayed with our camper van on the tent meadow, where there was still plenty of space during the week. The sanitary facilities were always very clean; showers cost 50 cents for hot water. Good kiosk with chilled 0.5-liter beer for €2.50. One point deducted because communication from the staff was reduced to a minimum.
In the off-season, we paid just over €50 in total for one night for a motorhome, two people, two dogs and €3.80 for electricity. The operators are nice, but the prices are worth noting, especially since dogs are not allowed on the beach.
When we arrived, we were lucky and still got a pitch. We also seemed to be lucky with the motorcyclists during the three days we were there. We are quite sensitive to noise and enjoyed the peace and quiet at the campsite. The senior operator was always friendly. Pragmatically speaking, a good site, but not really a beautiful one.
We were here two years ago and, like then, had very stormy nights this year. In addition, motorcyclists use the B11 as a racetrack from midnight until 7 a.m., keeping the entire site awake (although the road is officially closed to motorcycles after 10 p.m.). Staff are okay, washhouse is old and hygiene leaves something to be desired. The location itself is very beautiful! Electricity €4/day.
Great motorhome site, very nice operators. We reserved in advance and were able to choose our own pitch. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The sanitary facilities are a little dated, but cleanliness is always maintained and renovations are carried out gradually. The only thing they could do is keep the restaurant open until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. We will return.
We were here for the second time and are always happy to come back. Many thanks. Keep up the good work. Uli, Jürgen and Chess
Beautiful site, but... we paid €39 for one night. Electricity and shower water cost extra. At this price, you can expect them to be included. It is peacefully and beautifully located by the lake. Dogs are not allowed at the lake. For parking only, we find this price too high.
Great campsite. Very nice operators. Excellent food with great special offers, such as pork knuckle and spare ribs. Sanitary facilities are clean. Superb view of Lake Kochelsee. We will return! Highly recommended! We cannot understand the bad reviews!
We also cannot understand some of the bad reviews. Presumably, there are campers who do not know the saying, “As you call into the forest, so it echoes back.” We stayed for four nights and were completely satisfied. The spare ribs, pork knuckle and the rest of the menu also tasted excellent. It was our first time, but not our last.
Super nice site, very helpful operators. Great view, direct access to the lake. Lovely and quiet, sufficiently far from the busy main road. Sanitary facilities are dated but spotlessly clean. I cannot understand the bad reviews at all. We will definitely come back.
