6 Viale Castagnola, 6900, Lugano
Been here?
Central Lugano car park behind a tennis club near the lido, popular for a night or two while visiting the city on foot. Paid parking roughly 1-2 CHF/hour daytime (7-19h), free overnight; card payments not accepted, only coins (and a QR code option at some machines). Only suitable for smaller vans up to about 6-6.6m. Public toilets nearby, no other services. Can get busy and noisy in the day from traffic, events at the Lido, or the tennis bell, and glass containers are emptied noisily some mornings; nights are usually calm though occasional bikes have been stolen, so lock up and stay alert.

Quiet, safe, spacious, clean public toilets, Migros, lake, and park nearby. :)
We spent the night of February 14, 2026. After returning from the restaurant around 11 p.m., we had the unpleasant surprise of finding that our two locked electric bicycles had been stolen. The spot is hidden from the main road and is a dead end. With the noise of compressors inflating the covered tennis-court tents, the place is conducive to thieves. Be vigilant!
Cheap for one night; anyone staying longer has to pay something at the machine. However, paying in advance in the evening for the morning was not possible. We spent one night there at the beginning of August and were not the only ones. In the morning, the garbage collection emptied the glass containers extremely noisily. If there are events at the Lido or park, it is loud. Public toilet open 24 hours nearby.
Very central, but it now costs CHF 2 per hour.
We stayed here for three nights. During the day, and depending on events, the parking lot is somewhat busier and noisier, but earplugs solve the problem. It now costs CHF 2 per hour from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free at night. At the outdoor pool next door, you can shower for half the admission price and use the toilet for free if you ask. If you have no cash, you can pay online using the QR code on the machine.
Easy to find and access, even with our 6 m van. We parked there during the day. Perfectly located for visiting Lugano on foot.
Paid parking during the day and free at night, but very noisy, with very loud music and heavy bass. We left at 4:30 a.m.
Noisy car park!!!!!
Great parking area for overnight stays. Right in the center, next to a large, beautiful park, which is great for dogs. The parking area itself is at a tennis center/swimming pool. There is almost always a space available because people come and go. Even if you are the only motorhome staying overnight, you can feel safe. It can occasionally get a little louder at night—we were there on a Friday—because city visitors also park there, but we slept very well.
Quite okay, although a little tight at 6.6 meters long. It is possible in some individual spaces. Absolutely affordable: 7 francs from 2 p.m. until 10 a.m. the next morning.
We stayed for the night with no problem. Great place to stay to visit Lugano, close to the center. Make sure you have CHF coins to pay for parking as you can use cards.
Note that the ticket machines only take coins. It said euros too, but it did not accept my 1 euro coin. However we found another machine further around the end of the parking lot that was newer and accepted my coins.
Good parking area for visiting the city and for one night. We felt bad when the parking lot was full and tennis players could not find a space. Nevertheless, great for a short stay and suitable only for smaller campers.
Parking by the lido. Only spot we could find that allows you to stay for more than 2 hours during the day. 2 minute walk to some public toilets and a short walk to the center via a park. Gets really busy during the day but we were able to find a space on our second attempt at around 1pm. Stayed all afternoon and overnight, definitely the best spot we found in the area.
Nice little spot, free parking after 19:00 and before 7:00. More parking down and around on the left. Just about squeezed into a diagonal bay for 6.5m van. Quiet over night. Short 2min walk to a free beach, $10 for lido area with showers.
Ordinary parking spaces at the swimming pool/tennis court in Lugano. Maximum possible for a 6 m van. 1 hour, 1 CHF; free from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Highly recommended for seeing the city and staying overnight. We would do it again! Beautiful path through the park into the city.
The place is good for parking and visiting the city. Spaces are available after 8 p.m. It is possible to spend the night in a van. However, we wanted to stay overnight, but there was a party, possibly a nightclub, at the Lido right next door. We were there on a Thursday in summer. Impossible to sleep because of the commotion and booming bass. We left.
The parking area is okay for one night. Relatively quiet considering how central it is. Unfortunately, the glass containers were emptied at 6 a.m., which was very, very loud on Monday. Otherwise, the location is perfect for sightseeing. The space is really suitable only for vans.
Paid from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; it is a tennis parking lot, quiet at night, close to the beach, with no services, suitable only for vans.
