Been here?
A small, simple campsite on a natural meadow directly beside the Ruhr, with its own river access and a friendly operator. Toilets and showers are available across the road, but they are dated; pitches have no electricity or water connections, and pets are not allowed. The Ruhrtalradweg passes almost directly by, and the Railway Museum Bochum-Dahlhausen is 5-10 minutes away by bike. The nearest S-Bahn station is a 6-minute walk.

Campsite down on the right (Ruhrcamping on the left). Access via Horster Str.; otherwise there is a 2.15 m height restriction. Small, old and very basic campsite without frills, directly on the Ruhr. Typical friendly local welcome. Small sanitary facilities, still from another era, in the residential building opposite with a key. Perfect for exploring the Ruhr region by S-Bahn and bicycle (www.bahntrassenradeln.de). Wonderful: no dogs. Five days.
A very friendly and helpful operator. A great pitch for self-sufficient campers on a natural meadow, with direct access to the Ruhr. The toilets and showers are dated but clean. You can eat and sit very well at the Haus Großjung restaurant directly at the campsite. We would gladly come again.
We stayed there for a weekend with a rooftop tent. A really great and quiet place. Directly on the Ruhr, with private access to the water and direct connection to the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route. The operator is great and uncomplicated; we had some nice conversations. The sanitary facilities are somewhat dated but were always clean. We will definitely come again.
I sent two emails and called three times. The request was repeatedly forgotten; they kept asking me to send the email again and saying, “I’ll get back to you tomorrow”—this has been going on for two weeks. No chance if you need to plan around it :(
Located directly on the Ruhr, small but lovely for people who enjoy being close to nature. No reception; the extremely pleasant and charming operator can be reached by phone. The process is simple and completely stress-free. The sanitary facilities are across the road beside a restaurant, basic and functional. Two people, vehicle and rear tent for one night = €22.
Best campsite in Essen! For people who do not need luxury but want to enjoy beautiful nature. No frills, just real and rustic camping with a very humorous and likeable host. Beautifully located! Everything you need is available. We are from Essen ourselves and regularly treat ourselves to a little break from the hustle and bustle of the city here.
Nice, simple campsite consisting of pitches and sanitary facilities. We felt very comfortable and welcome here. The pitches are not too close together, so you have privacy. We paid €20 for one night with a van. There is a restaurant nearby.
Small site in a very beautiful, quiet location with a friendly welcome. There is no reception on site, but the owner arrives promptly after a phone call. There are several wooden tables and chairs that can be used, as well as fire pits; firewood can be purchased on site. The sanitary facilities are across the road in a residential building but have separate access. Unfortunately, the shower is very old and could use modernization. We paid a very fair €18 for two people in a van.
Quiet, natural meadow used as a pitch. Late arrival on a Sunday was possible after notifying them by phone. Sanitary facilities are available but somewhat dated. The inn directly opposite offers very good food.
