Paid trailhead parking, overnight forbidden

Close to Route 1 but barely visible from the road. Access is suitable for all vehicles, although great care is needed. In winter, snow may make it problematic. Sheltered by a tiny hill that can protect from the wind. This is the start of an incredible route with views of the glacier and the Mulagljufur canyon. One of our favorites in Iceland.✦Translating

Awesome spot to spend the night, very well sheltered when it's windy, we stayed with a roof tent and enjoyed it a lot. Super quiet during the night, just by the glacier, beautiful spot. People start coming in the morning around 8 am since it's the start point of a popular hike!

Isolated place away from the main road. Very good for one night. A rocky road of more than 2 km leads to the parking area; we were glad to have a 4x4. Visitors arrive in the morning to visit the canyon.✦Translating

Already very busy during the day in May. The approach is bumpy but manageable even with campers if there is some ground clearance. No toilet, no rubbish bin, only for self-contained vehicles. In May, I collected and removed about 5 kg of toilet paper and other waste from the landscape.✦Translating

We spent one night here in a roof tent. A view of the ocean on one side and snow-covered mountains on the other. No walkers on the horizon from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sheltered from the wind!✦Translating
