Been here?
A wild spot beneath olive trees beside the ruined church of Santa Catarina da Monsaraz, with sweeping views towards Monsaraz and memorable sunsets. It is very quiet, although dogs, cattle bells, donkeys and flies may be heard nearby. There are no services, and the uneven access is difficult without a jeep or SUV. The upper approach is extremely rough and nearly impassable for vans; it is intended for small vans.

The spot is great, in the middle of nature, facing Monsaraz, where you can see a beautiful sunset. WARNING! There are two access roads. One starts from the top, near Monsaraz, and is very rough and almost impassable by van. The second is lower down, near the main road, and has no obstacles, even for a motorhome. I recommend the spot.
Difficult access if you do not have a Jeep or SUV. Super quiet and beautiful sunrise.
Magnificent and super quiet! Even the donkeys and cows respect the curfew!
Great view of the illuminated castle. Nobody came to disturb us. Unfortunately, someone had left their rubbish behind, which I naturally took with me. At night there was barking dogs from the castle, cowbells and lots of flies, but it did not bother me.
Nothing special. Only suitable for small vans. Donkeys, flies, cowbells and barking dogs enlivened our night. The church is completely ruined.
Beautiful and quiet spot to spend a night; we were the only van when we visited mid-May on a weekday. Wonderful stars and surroundings, and not disturbances.
We stayed here for one night. Very quiet. Dogs sometimes barked, which did not bother us. No services. Please keep the place clean.
I spent a wonderful night there. The animals in the nearby meadows made some noise, but it was relaxing for me. The police came in the morning for a little chat.
Nice place to stay if you want to be alone in nature. We were here in February and the track is not in great condition but still passable with some determination. Slightly hard to find a flat spot but plenty of rocks lying about to use as levellers. As others have said do not follow google maps from Monsaraz as the track down from the town is not drivable - but can be used to walk up to the town!
Very good location! Beautiful view of the village of Monsaraz, very quiet. At night you can faintly hear the bells of the sheep herds and the donkey braying. Ideal for a van. The best spot is under the tree near the abandoned church. Well located for visiting Monsaraz and going to the river beach, where you can swim and enjoy water activities.
Huge spot, access unsuitable for motorhomes.
Meadow with abandoned church in middle of fields. Amazing view to the nearby village and surrounding landscape. It is possible to get here with motorhome.
