Quiet riverside, large vehicles discouraged

We stayed one night. Totally unsuitable for large, low motorhomes. The site extends a little beyond the marked area, up to the river. Ideal for a 4x4 or small van, with limited space for no more than two or three vehicles. Very quiet, with the possibility of swimming in the river. Local people with dogs often come by in the afternoon.

We arrived from Villaverde de la Abadía without difficulty on the road; I drive a small van. The place is very beautiful, but be warned that the suspension bridge has collapsed—it was swept away and is in the water.

An unforgettable spot, with a riverbed for swimming and absolute tranquility. We were a little shaken getting there: a narrow, steep hamlet and small dusty, rocky roads. Difficult or inaccessible for large vehicles, but perfectly feasible with a van—we have a Volkswagen van. We think there may be an easier route from Villaverde ;)

Good place! We arrived in the morning and were alone until 5 p.m. After that, many families came to swim in the river. Everyone eventually left, and we slept alone in complete silence and peace. Search for “Puentes Colgantes de Villanueva de la Abadía.” The track is fine for a 6 m camper. Shade and river water right beside you. However, there are many flies!

We did not get there either. For those coming next, the road from Santalla del Bierzo is not passable all the way without a 4x4; we stopped 300 m away. After carefully looking at the photos and Google Maps, I think the marker is on the wrong side of the bridge. Access is probably via Villaverde de la Abadía. Good luck ;-)

Very, very bad roads to get there. I am not sure whether the location is not precise or we simply failed to find it, but we eventually gave up. We travel in a small Transit, and some maneuvers were quite complicated, only to fail to reach the indicated place. I do not recommend it in good weather, and even less in the rain, when everything is mud.
