Unnamed Road, 07349, Lehesten
Been here?
A very quiet, level forest spot at the end of a small road, with tables and benches and no traffic at night. It is a good starting point for hikes, including routes towards the nearby Schieferpark. There are no services or rubbish bins, so the area must be kept clean. The spot is directly beside the road.

We have already slept directly at the Altvaterturm twice. Since someone is always parked at the tower, we came here. This place is very level and peaceful, apart from the radio club, whose surveillance camera was pointed at the public car park. I found the videos online with our rooftop tent visible. So much for data protection.
If it is full up at the Altvaterturm, you can also park here. It is also better if you want to hike the slate routes. It is right on the road, though, so I would prefer the upper site.
Peace. Nature. Pure! Nothing more is needed. Good starting point for hikes, for example to the impressive Slate Park. Unfortunately, the beautiful German-historic restaurant in the nearby Altvaterturm is closed; a new tenant is being sought.
Drive past the tower, about 300 m or so. I then parked my small van on the grassy strip on the right, in front of the kiosk. Ideal with a dog. I did not have free Wi-Fi, but the 5G network was very good. Absolutely quiet, in the middle of the forest. Cheers.
Incredible peace at night, something you rarely find.
We also visited the site of the former NVA FuTB base, now deserted, with remnants such as bunkers in the immediate surroundings. For the night, we moved to the site at the Altvaterturm. During today's tour, we were explicitly invited and were happy to join.
Beautiful place; on weekends with good weather there are many hikers. The Wetzsteinhütte opposite is usually open on Sundays.
A very lonely and idyllic place with free Wi-Fi. A few hikers and cyclists pass by occasionally. The Altvaterturm is a two-minute walk away, and the Kühlen Morgen is about 45 minutes away. No services; the place is not completely level. Please take your rubbish with you.
Good starting point for a hike to the old slate quarry, about 3.5 km. The kiosk in the car park is open on Sunday afternoons. Amazingly, there is free Wi-Fi in the middle of the forest. Very quiet; we were alone here at the end of April in cold weather. Unfortunately, there was some rubbish around, which we disposed of for ourselves and those who come after us.
Beautiful and quiet place to sleep.
