Paid daytime parking, height barrier

Parking is prohibited for vehicles over 2 m high and longer than 5 m!! The municipal enforcement office checks regularly, but when we spoke with them they were very friendly and suggested alternatives.

A tiny sign at the entrance to the parking lot, behind trees, prohibits parking for vehicles over 2.1 m high or 5 m long. So it is prohibited for motorhomes that venture there. We did not see the hidden sign, paid for parking on site, and received a fine. The parking restriction is not repeated anywhere else. Thieving municipality!

It is a good place to park; you just have to remember to obtain a parking ticket first and display it in the windshield. We were unsure whether it was allowed for motorhomes—it must be, since we did not get a fine, while we could see that other cars had received one. So it is a good place to stop during the day.

I parked there with a 6 m van plus a 1 m bicycle rack. Some lengthwise or angled spaces along the grass allow this without overhanging. €2 per hour, limited to 4 hours. Paid from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., except Sundays and public holidays. The harbor is 1.5 km away through the old quarter. Arriving at noon gives you 6 hours to visit the town for €8.

Parts of the parking lot are closed to cars over 2 m high or 5 m long. There are two parking meters for payment.

La Rochelle is a scam city. We were fined even though there was no sign indicating that this parking lot was prohibited for motorhomes.
