Via Circonvallazione, 60122, Ancona
Been here?
A free parking area beside the citadel wall, with flat spaces and generally quiet overnight conditions. It is about 1,5 km downhill on foot from the centre, with an uphill return. Access roads are narrow and steep, and the parking surface is quite degraded. Avoid the south-western approach, where a 2,2 m bridge is impassable.

Very damaged parking area, but practical if you have no other option. The roads to get there are very narrow and steep, and you have to go back down and then up again to visit the city.
Stayed for one day to visit the city. I think it is one of the few places where motorhomes can fit, it is level, and it is free. The center is 1.5 km downhill (obviously uphill on the way back) on foot.
Very good for spending the day. It is free and seemed quite safe to me. There are other motorhomes, easy access, plenty of space and many parking spots. We walked down to the historic center, spent a few hours there, and then returned. There is a climb on the way back, but it is easy for anyone used to walking around Europe. Recommended!
Quiet place but far from the center, which is down below. For visiting the city, it may be better to choose a place at harbor level to avoid the tiring climb back up for 1 km.
No interest, except as a stopover before taking the ferry. Far from the city.
Quite convenient for visiting the center (only 500 meters downhill). I agree with previous visitors: the area is modest but illuminated and appears safe. I did not stay overnight because I was heading north. Be careful, as the satnav may take you onto a road with a 2.2 m height restriction and then the wrong way down a one-way street!
Okay for one night. Warning! The south-western route suggested by Google Maps cannot be used because of a 2.2 m-high bridge.
Okay for one night and very quiet. The access road is very steep and partly quite narrow. Easy to manage with a panel van. Very busy during the day; we arrived after 6 p.m. and still had several fairly level spaces to choose from. Great view of the harbor below the parking area.
After a first Saturday night and visiting the city in the morning, the site is perfect: a super-quiet night and a modest, traditional neighborhood with a market inside the citadel.
