Park-and-ride, noise and theft risk

Only four stars because of cleanliness! But full marks for free overnight stays. We stayed three nights and... we slept. After a day of driving or spending half the day walking around Edinburgh, we were able to sleep well despite the train. The bus connection is excellent. It takes an hour, but there is also plenty to see along the way.

Excellent option for visiting Edinburgh if the campsites are full or to save money. It is the railway-station car park, with trains to Edinburgh taking 20 minutes, a perfect solution. Very noisy at night because of the road on one side and the railway on the other, but it works for one night while visiting Edinburgh.

Be Aware 12th September 2025 we had 2 electric bikes stolen off the back of our motorhome at this park and ride. Cover torn open and locks cut through. during daylight hours whilst we were visiting Edinburgh.

Free parking with spaces for motorhomes, paved and level. Very quiet, with a train and bus very nearby to get to Edinburgh.

Great parkup for easy access to Edinburgh. Make sure you park in the middle - away from the road and the train. We did see some suspicious activity in a car that came and parked next to us at about midnight but they left shortly after and didn't bother us

its exactly what you would expect of a P+R. loads of space, quiet night, busy morning and not too many others staying in their motorhomes. its good for one night but its not a spot to have a quiet morning and breakfast

Very large free car park with no services, 250 m from the station to Edinburgh, which is very convenient. However, it is very noisy: trains, planes, a busy road, and traffic in and out of the car park.

Really peaceful place, even though it is near the railway; the station for Edinburgh is a five-minute walk away.

We had good two nights here. The trains are a bit noisy. 10 min to Edinburgh centre by train. The only park and ride near Edinburgh without height description.

Very loud but Ok. There is toilets at the community centre down the road. Weekday 8-21

Wallyford railway station is 5 mins walk. Cross the station walkway bridge to go to Edinburgh. Takes 10 mins trains every hour 30-35 mins past the hour. Sunday trains don't start until 10.30am. Return ticket 4.90 pounds, ticket machine on the Edinburgh platform. Don't worry about 'off peak', it's valid all day as Scotrail compete against the buses that take a bumpy frequently stopping 40-50 mins.

Perfect place to stay for a couple of days in Edinburgh. There are no bins or services. Completely safe, with bus and train connections to Edinburgh. A one-day bus ticket costs £5. About 30 minutes to Princes Street. Bus 44 has many stops; bus 113 is better.

Good base for exploring Edinburgh. We stayed here overnight from Saturday to Sunday and had a very quiet night; the first trains pass around 9 a.m. on Sunday. I would definitely come here again at the weekend. It may be less peaceful overnight during the week because more trains run then.

No facilities but a good free stopover for going into Edinburgh.
