Mountain daytime parking, overnight forbidden

I give it 3 stars because it is indeed difficult to go there for motorhomes. Ours is a 5.5m motorhome and I had to drive in the second gear 90% of the time. 10km of dirt road. At least it is wide. But the parking on top is fantastic. And the hikes around. Astonishing. Worth going there once :). Off season and not in weekends it is free to go there. No need to pay.

Parking at Fontalba is daytime-only; parking overnight is prohibited. In high season, motorized access to the dirt track, with rocky sections, is regulated. Advance reservation is required and costs €5 per vehicle per day on the specified dates. The track is open! It is a dirt parking area reached via a zigzag track. You can take it slowly in any car; when we went, there were all kinds of vehicles. Even so, it is full of stones and difficult in some sections. The Fontalba–Puigmal–Núria–Fontalba circular route is recommended!

TRACK OPEN. The access is via a dirt-and-stone track and you have to stay in second gear the whole way, so it is not suitable for all types of cars. You must reserve the parking day online (€5 per vehicle). Reservations are limited.

ROAD CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION. You cannot drive up. To hike Puigmal, you have to park at the rack railway parking area and walk up to Núria via the hermitage path, then continue to Puigmal. Six hours on foot—a little stroll.

Since 2022, overnight stays have been prohibited here. There are signs everywhere warning of fines of up to €3,000 for spending the night, and forest rangers come early to check, so a fine is guaranteed! The best option is to sleep in the designated camper area in Queralbs; it is perfect.

We were at the parking area today and, honestly, the track is in very bad condition. It is a good place to climb Puigmal and for other routes, but you could leave your oil pan or its protective cover on the ground, so be warned! Use common sense!

Perfect spot for setting off toward Puigmal or doing the circular route to Núria. Overnight stays have not been allowed for a couple of years because of the overcrowding in the parking area and the general lack of respect people showed for this place—a real shame. In any case, it is a fantastic landscape, one of the highest points in Catalonia accessible by van, where you can spend the day comfortably at 2,000 meters.

The road is in very bad condition, with many potholes and loose stones. The climb seems endless! Even so, the views are magnificent for having a coffee. Overnight stays are not allowed.
