This parking area at the ski resort above Akureyri offers beautiful mountain, fjord and city views. Recent visitors report very quiet nights with little traffic, while daytime parking can become busy and the area is exposed in strong wind. There are no services when the resort is closed; bathrooms and a cafe may be available when it is open.

Ski station parking lot, very close to Akureyri. We spent a summer night here; there were no cars, a quiet place with beautiful views. No services.
Parking with a magnificent view of Akureyri. Quite a lot of people come by in the evening to stroll and admire the view. Then, from 11 p.m., only two vehicles remained sleeping there. No sign prohibiting overnight stays.

Dirt parking lot at the ski resort less than 10 minutes from Akureyri. We spent the night with two other vans. Good place with good views. If it is windy, it is very exposed, but that was not the case for us.
We tried to spend the night, but an infernal wind started and we had to go down to a more sheltered place. A shame, because the views are spectacular.
Be very careful. We tried to go there on November 2, but had to stop on the side: it was impossible to go up or down because the road was icy. We had to leave the van on the side, hitchhike down to Akureyri, and take a hotel, then return to collect the vehicle the next day. If you are well equipped with studded tires, no problem; otherwise, move on and do not go there!
Superb view. Quite a few people come to enjoy the panorama in the evening, then... deserted!
