Kirkstone Pass, CA11 0NZ, Penrith
Been here?
Red Pitt carpark is a quiet overnight parking spot with spacious, fairly level areas and excellent valley views. It is particularly peaceful in the evening, although strong wind can make staying uncomfortable and the approach roads are winding and steep. A short walk leads to the Kirkstone Pass viewpoint, while a pub is 10 minute walk up the road. Donations should be made using the QR code.

Magical little spot. Very quiet, fabulous views, short walk to Kirkstone Pass view. Be sure to scan the QR code and make a donation.
Excellent spot! Stayed here two nights at different occasions in April and it was very quiet except for the wind which I enjoyed! Highly recommended. Perfect view into one of the valleys from inside the car!
Lovely spot, great views, no issues!
Tried to stay overnight in a car, was so windy I had to move. The roads here are windy and very steap. Lovely place, would recommend on a not so windy night!
Lovely little park up, epic views, very few cars. 1 horn blaster at 6 am but other than that very quiet
What a stunning location, I had the place to myself during a major winter wind storm! The views in the morning were well worth it.
Sunday night. Car park to myself. Low cloud cover. Good EE signal. Flat as a pancake
The view seems to be truly amazing, but we arrived at night and it was really too windy to stay, so beware if you come with a bad weather, look for a backup spot just in case. But there is plenty of space for multiple vans, it is quite flat and you have pathways starting there if you enjoy wandering
Been here a few times fantastic and peaceful views.
Come and see it for yourself. Breathtaking views. The car park gets busy during the day, as described, which is no big surprise.
Very nice gravel parking area. A small river is directly nearby and there are sheep on the hillsides. The road is very quiet at night but becomes busier from 7:00.
Views looking north are excellent and a good spot that needs looking after and respecting. The pub nearby must be one of the highest in England.
Great place. Very quiet at night. Unfortunately, there was an inconsiderate person who first filled everything with smoke while making a fire, then let the engine run for ages in the morning before leaving, and also simply emptied all their gray water there. People like this are why such wonderful places end up being closed :-(
Good spot with lovely views. It gets quite windy. One side is flat and will fit roughly three vans; the rest is sloping.
Amazing spot, set back from the road. There were a few vans, some parked more disrespectfully than others. Excellent sunset views, and the stars came out at night. There is a gate into the walking areas.
Stayed here overnight in our campervan. Two other vans parked up. Great views, quiet later and overnight. Part sloping but fine.
