Viale dei Filosofi, 56048, Volterra
Been here?
A large gravel car park below Volterra's old town, right by a staircase (around 250 steps) leading up into the historic centre. It's a paying aire with fresh water, grey/black water dump and toilet cassette emptying, plus coin-operated electricity, though several columns are often out of order. The ground is uneven and sloped, chocks are recommended, and the service area is frequently muddy or clogged with leaves. Nights are generally quiet, though one visitor reported loud music until 2am. Mobile signal is weak.

The area is very quiet. The parking area is near the walls, and a long staircase from there takes you into the historic center. Unfortunately, the parking area has no services; electricity costs extra, and phones have no signal.Translating
We were here today, probably the best parking area for motorhomes. We parked without any problems and could even get electricity for our motorhome from the electrical box for one euro, which was great because we could turn on the air conditioning. I think you could easily sleep here too; we only made a day trip.Translating
Volterra parking, well located with access to the town! Stairs begin right at the foot of the parking area. Gravel parking, quite dusty, but it is what it is. Parking is fine! The surprise was the music on both evenings we stayed; on the last night, it felt like being in a nightclub until 2 a.m. Unacceptable in our view! That is why we gave the lowest rating.Translating
Ideal location for visiting the city.Translating
Paying €15 just for a city visit is steep. It would be desirable to offer at least a daytime rate here. The electrical connection also did not work, so another euro was wasted… At least the site is conveniently located, with the city center quickly reachable, and it is perfectly fine for an overnight stay.Translating
All facilities available—€15 for 24 hours. We did not stay overnight, only parked to visit the city.Translating
Very large parking area, perfect for visiting beautiful Volterra. The center can be reached in less than ten minutes on foot via a staircase. The only drawback is that it is a gravel parking area with a very uneven surface.Translating
Good place to visit the beautiful city. The gravel parking area is very muddy when it rains. Facilities are fine. You can pay by card at the machine.Translating
Good water and waste disposal facilities. Parking minimum rate €15. Fine for a day visit, expensive for a short city tour.Translating
Excellent motorhome site at the foot of Volterra. Gray and black water disposal available. You can also pay by bank card!!! €15. Electricity €1 for 12 hours. Thank you for providing this facility.Translating
Large paid parking area with all services. Electricity costs €1 per hour, but the dispensers are in poor condition; some do not work and do not return coins. I have been here several times over the years, but the lot is always uneven in places and therefore unusable, while elsewhere you need leveling blocks. Volterra can be reached via a staircase of 256 steps, but it is worth the effort because the town is very beautiful.Translating
Parking is okay; we felt safe even though there was no fence or anything similar. The pitches are uneven, so you need leveling blocks!! Electricity at €1 for 12 hours is fine. Unfortunately, there is no hourly rate, which we found disappointing. Volterra is beautiful and can only be reached from the parking area via many steps, but then you are directly in the city. Water and waste disposal are very dirty and disgusting.Translating
Quiet area close to the city via stairs. No 4G signal. Some electrical hookups do not work. Price: €15 for 24 hours.Translating
Okay parking spot. Quiet. There are 256 steps up to Volterra, so you need to be in reasonable shape. When we were there, the place was clean.Translating
Gravel area, slightly sloped. Parking fee exclusively for 24 hours: €15, plus €2.25 app fee. Water supply and disposal included, electricity extra. Perfect place for visiting the city. The road runs directly past the site, but there was hardly any traffic at night.Translating
Very good location, with water for disposal and close to the pleasant little town to visit. However, the electricity did not work; I put money in, but nothing happened. One star deducted for that, otherwise it would have deserved the maximum.Translating
Indecent area! Uneven, neglected, full of tall grass and rubbish, with a blocked cassette-disposal station. I preferred not to use the camper service. The station for paying the €15 works perfectly with a bank card, though! Electricity €1 for 12 hours. Residents constantly stop to throw bags of rubbish into the bins. What a shame—Volterra does not deserve this, nor do motorhome travelers.Translating
I can only agree with Mic 1973. It is a gravel area, but everything is available and currently works. The bins would certainly not be so full if local residents did not dispose of their rubbish here. Good site at a hotspot.Translating
The site is uneven but close to the center. €15 per 24 hours, payable at the machine. Hourly payment is not possible; you can only select the whole day. Water and waste disposal are available and free. There are also trash bins. When we were there, the disposal area was somewhat muddy, but everything worked, including the toilet cassette. There are also some electrical hookups (€1 for 12 hours).Translating
Large parking area. Electrical hookups available. A short walk from an entrance gate, where you will find a long staircase leading into the city. Cost: €15 for 24 hours. The only drawback is poor management by the municipality. In particular, hygiene is lacking in the loading and unloading area, including the dumpsters.Translating
A very pleasant place to spend the night, with all facilities available. The only issue is that you have to climb the 250 steps for the toilet, but that is what you come here for.
€15 is neither a lot nor a little… The parking area is sloped, with an uneven surface and quite a few ruts. Gray-water disposal was in a puddle, at least during my stay. A few small improvements would make the stay more pleasant. Still, it is a quiet area where you sleep well, and the city is really something. Too bad the Roman ruins cannot be visited!
Quiet parking area; the stairs lead straight into the city center. The hookups work (€1 for 12 hours of electricity). You can pay by bank card; €15 per day, not divisible. The gray-water disposal is full and unusable.
Very good place, with a large parking area for spending the night and using all the free services. We did not use the electricity, but apparently it works (€1 for 12 hours). The city is right next door via the stairs, and it is magnificent.
More than adequate spot. Water point. Via the steps you quickly reach romantic Volterra and get the most splendid sunset. Not a beautiful place to stay, but more than sufficient! The road running alongside it was not a problem.
Paid by debit card; found working electrical hookups, close to the center via Fonte Docciola. I had a good stay and a peaceful night. The only drawback was that the gray-water drain was practically full (it had rained heavily in recent days) and unfortunately it is connected to the black-water drain. I managed to empty everything without problems, but I don't know how those after me managed.
Too isolated for spending the night. Uneven, sloping ground, damp site, and only two electrical hookups available in the entire area. The staircase leading to the center is not lit and is not recommended in the evening. I chose another parking area nearby in a safer location close to the center.
A gravel and...mud parking area. The pitches are not marked, so everyone parks as they wish, taking space away from other campers. The hookups are absolutely insufficient for everyone; one is also out of order. The gray-water drain is blocked and wastewater flows onto the parking area. A long staircase leads to the center.
For €15 it should be better maintained, especially the service area. The lack of consideration from people who always leave it dirty is another matter! Very convenient for visiting the center, with a peaceful and quiet night. Today is Sunday, so the bells can be heard.
We can only agree with the previous reviewer; we drove away again. We have not seen a worse place on our journey through Italy! Disgusting!!
Shame, shame, shame. A city like Volterra allowing such filth. Never seen anything like it, and I won't go into details.
Very convenient for visiting the city. Quiet and pleasant. The water service is not very clean, but acceptable. Fair price. Recommended!
Large parking area in a quiet location. The surface is sloped, and some electrical hookups do not work even after payment. Ideal location for visiting the historic town.
We stayed here on December 6. Very convenient location for Volterra's historic center, which is truly beautiful. The parking area could be better maintained; the surface has some potholes. Cost €15 for 24 hours, including water and emptying; electricity costs an additional €1 for 12 hours. However, not all hookups worked, and we realized this only after paying for three different ones.
On dirt, very muddy, with very dirty and leaf-filled water and drainage facilities. There are recycling bins and about 40 camper spaces. €15 for 24 hours, cash or card, including contactless. Convenient access to the town via a long staircase.
A splendid city like Volterra could make a somewhat better camper area, in my opinion, especially since there is enough space. Anyway, it is slightly sloping, entirely on muddy gravel, electricity €1/12 hours, parking €15. I confirm that payment by debit card is accepted.
Excellent parking area, slightly sloping but leveling blocks solve it. Free electricity. €15 for 24 hours; debit-card payment also accepted.
Large dirt parking area with electricity terminals and a dumping area that was full of leaves and mud. Right next to stairs leading to the town center. €15/24 hours plus €1 for electricity.
Nice place, nothing to complain about, 100 meters from the stairs to the center.
