Old Thornford Road, RG19, Thatcham
Been here?
This small parking area beside Greenham Common offers access to attractive open countryside and walking routes. Recent reports describe unsafe behaviour, including suspicious vehicles, harassment and a van window being smashed, so overnight stays are not recommended. Dog walkers, runners and other vehicles make the area very busy from early morning.

Dogging/unsafe spot. Been here a few times but have had issues almost every time, car driving slowing back and forth past me for 30 mins, someone pulling up opposite and just staring in the van, and the final straw, someone pulled up behind me, someone else came to talk to them and they pulled out their privates to play with (in the middle of the day), right infront of my window. Do not recommend!
I arrived late around 11pm, 1hr later some car stopped and smashed my window with a stone and drove off...
Stayed here on a friday night, weekend of the Newbury motorhome festival. Arrived at 23.30 to find no other vehicles here, so plenty of space, very quiet night with the odd passing vehicle. Come 06.30 other vehicles started arriving, mainly dog walkers and runners, soon became very busy.. Lovely spot though although no amenities so please take any rubbish away with you.
Arrived late and was the only van overnight. Dog walkers arriving from 6am, but plenty of space available for all. Random knock and thud on the van at about 6:20 presumably from a local busy body, but no damage done. Probably ideal if you’re planning to leave early. Otherwise a convenient stop about 15 minutes from the M4.
It would be a 5 star for the location, however it's SUPER busy all the time-so much so I checked if it was a bank holiday Monday. It wasn't- everyone has to park very close together because the area to park is pretty small so you feel very on top of everyone. I loved all the blackberry bushes, filled a whole pot in 10mins! Ear plugs are a must here, dogs from 5/6am
Flat site, countryside, opening onto a very beautiful green area. We would have given it five stars if it weren’t for the comings and goings of doggers early in the morning from 6 a.m. on Sunday, and vehicles passing until midnight.
Normally no problems here but have been moved on by wardens….
Lovely surrounding, walking on the fields was great. Busy with dog walkers early and through the day but pretty quiet at night
We cough a weird looking man with long hair filming my partner and I.He sneaked his hand holding the phone through a little gap in between the curtains. It was the CREEPIEST thing. We got to see him and we realised we saw him around the parking earlier in the evening. We think he wanted to record if we had any valuables so he could rob us. Parking is lovely but please be aware of thieves around
lovely surroundings, right on the common. we parked a 7m motorhome without any problem. busy evening and morning with dog walkers but very quiet overnight.
