40 Les Barres, 1905, Dorénaz
Been here?
Small free roadside pull-off by the Rhône, with a picnic table, next to climbing routes and a nature reserve. Quiet overnight but daytime traffic is fairly steady, picking up again from around 6am. No toilets, water or facilities beyond a bin; watch for ticks and bugs in warmer months. Popular with climbers and walkers during the day. Easy roadside access, though the road speed limit is 80km/h.

Bit noisy with traffic. Convenient if you're a rock climber
An enormous amount of traffic until midnight and from 6 a.m. Too noisy for my taste.
Several large places to park beside this busy road. We arrived at 6:30 p.m. to sleep; it was quiet with little traffic and already shaded for the rest of the evening. From 6 a.m. there was a lot of car traffic… No services such as toilets, rubbish bins or water.
Good spot off the main road, good for a rest after coming over from Chamonix. Picnic bench and bin, next to a climbing area, but no toilets. Next to a small nature reserve complete with Ibex and loads of frogs, but also lots of bugs, so bring repellent for the evenings!
Nice parking area beside the road, with a picnic table and rubbish bin. Be careful: the road has an 80 km/h speed limit and people drive fast. There are also ticks at the moment. We were not disturbed during the night.
Very beautiful during the day, but constant traffic from 6 a.m.
Perfect: some traffic during the day, but quiet at night. Several climbers on site. No services.
