Glacier hike parking, narrow access

Paved parking lot directly at the old station. The approach via the paved glacier road is somewhat adventurous—narrow and unprotected—but spectacular.

Well-developed, paved road all the way to the top. Plenty of passing bays along the way. Public toilets at the top, currently locked. A fresh-water tap with a square drive is available next to the toilets; it currently works. The toll currently costs NOK 150 (June 2026).

Great parking area for hiking on the glacier. The long trail starts at 11 a.m. and the short one at noon. Very nice people.

Nice place. It seems somewhat deserted, probably because the ski resort went bankrupt. Nevertheless, it is very impressive to see the glacier and the effects of our behavior. The glacier is running off like an hourglass. The toilets are highly recommended. The picture with the camping prohibition sign was definitely not taken up there—just look at the leaves in the background. There are no trees there.

No prohibition sign visible. Few visitors at the moment, mid-July 2025. No skiers, only organized glacier hikers. A very large gravel area behind the marked paved parking spaces was completely empty. About 7 motorhomes can fit there comfortably. The approach has a few narrow, somewhat unclear sections, but there are actually enough passing bays if you drive considerately.

The ski resort went bankrupt, so it is closed. Toilets are open and are being cleaned. Amazing views if you go for a walk. There are no views from the parking.

Currently open, but may occasionally close because of snow showers. I would only do it with winter tires and enough food and water reserves.

Quiet place, even on weekends. We were there for skiing, and apart from us there were 4 other campers. During the day the parking lot is full, as glacier hikes are offered from here and some people come to ski. From 4 p.m. onward, the parking lot is fairly empty again.

The drive up is a great adventure. The place itself is rather bleak, but with a very good view. We chose the area below for the night.

An exceptionally beautiful route to get there, with many moments that make you say wow. Check the weather forecast beforehand. Shortly after arriving, we had to endure strong wind and rain, which made the descent the next morning, also in the rain, quite an exciting undertaking on a narrow road, often without a guardrail. Toilets are super clean, with tampons (take one, bring one). Open during the ski center's opening hours.

The approach was very exciting, but it was worth it. We stood completely alone and had the mountain to ourselves.
