Free parking near central Chamonix, though it is usually full during the day and busy with traffic. Spaces accommodate vans up to 2.7m wide, with shade under the bridge, but the road becomes inclined farther uphill. Nights can be quiet, and public bins and station toilets are nearby. Parking is limited to 24 hours, and discreet overnight stays are advisable because camping is prohibited.

It is usually full and busy during the day, but if you find a space, you are in the center of Chamonix. We had the roof open because we were cooking, and a local drove past saying that camping was forbidden, so you should try to be as discreet as possible so as not to disturb anyone. Otherwise, an ideal place with views of Mont Blanc.
Too well known among the people of Chamonix; there is no space available during the day…
Chamonix was hard to find parking (even paid parking) we were lucky there was a space here for our 2.6m high and around 8m long van, it was very close to the centre too! However I do think this was pot luck as it was very busy. Quiet night stay in a very good location and free of course.
Ugly, beside the railway tracks and under the main road into Chamonix... but it is free! And that means a lot in Chamonix, considering the price of the parking.
