Canal parking, legal spaces scarce

Currently, parking has been restricted to about 12 spaces, which are heavily occupied by long-term parkers. The chance of getting a legal parking space here is currently minimal. Apparently, the city of Münster does not want tourists with motorhomes. Other cities are more advanced, with comfortable pitches including electricity and water!

It would be a good motorhome site if, indeed, 10 of the 12 spaces were not occupied by local motorhome owners! There is absolutely no enforcement! What a shame! We were lucky to find one free space early in the morning!

There are about 10–12 spaces in a designated area. No cars were parked there either. On the contrary, the motorhomes were parked in the car spaces, where parking with a parking disc is permitted for three hours, as indicated by the signs. What is true is that at least half of the spaces are occupied by long-term parkers from the region. Apparently, however, nobody checks whether motorhomes remain in the car spaces for more than three hours.

Unfortunately, this is not a motorhome site for visitors to the city. It appears that Münster's motorhome owners park here permanently. Today there were six vehicles with MS license plates. Half of the parking area has a height restriction; the remaining spaces are short and limited to three hours. There was no space left for our camper at noon.

On April 23, 2026, the site was still free, although new signs are reportedly planned that explicitly identify motorhome spaces, and parking will only be allowed there. All cars parked in these spaces will receive a €10 towing fee, as will motorhomes parked in the car spaces.

Still free of charge, very quiet, quick by bike to the city center and even quicker to the harbor district—very nice!

As of today (04/04/2026), use of the site is free. I saw nothing anywhere indicating that a fee is payable.

During the day the parking area is always full; in the morning it is almost impossible to find a space. There are six spaces for motorhomes, but you can park anywhere without problems. Free parking; there is no payment terminal or signage indicating that it is paid, and it is clear that many residents use the site to leave their motorhomes all year round.

Great place to explore the city. The parking area is well lit and very quiet at night. Activity does start early, though. The first cars and work vans arrive at 6:30 a.m. It is busy during the day, but around 4 p.m. the parking area empties and the cars occupying camper spaces leave. Parking tickets were also being issued today.

Actually a good place! Such a shame: most of the motorhome spaces are occupied by cars. The city does not seem to care; a call to the public order office was unfortunately unsuccessful.

A deterrent example of a motorhome site. Completely overcrowded with cars parked anywhere and spaces that are far too narrow and short. We drove on.

All the previous descriptions contain some truth. We stayed here quietly for two nights and slept well. It took us 30 minutes to reach the city center, but the bus leaves directly from the site; a day ticket for up to five people costs €10.50. According to the tourist information office, part of the site is to be redesigned for motorhomes. Many thanks to the city of Münster for that.

We spent a quiet night here until the kindergarten opened. The center and harbor are easily reached on foot. No way to dispose of rubbish. The site was busy.

From October 1, 2025, the city will close the parking area to motorhomes, except for a few designated spaces. A great shame and a step backward for Münster.

Yes, it is only a parking area, but I knew that beforehand. Giving it only one star because other campers park badly, as if the city were responsible, is unfair. Thank you, Münster—we were happy at 10 p.m. to find a good, clean parking area where we were also allowed to sleep. Anytime!

Large parking area; indeed, some people park outside the marked spaces. However, note that it is the students' parking area during the school term. Thanks to Münster for this place.

Parking area near the center. We stopped only for lunch because it was full of poorly parked motorhomes. Recommended if you can find a space.

As advertised. It took us 35 minutes to walk to the centre.

Difficult to find a space during the week because, unfortunately, many locals park there permanently. What a shame! Otherwise, 30 minutes from the center and free, so convenient.

We stayed here over the weekend and had no problem finding a space. Like many others, we parked in a regular car space. With a 6 m vehicle, that works very well. The bus stop is right at the parking area. It was very quiet and ideal for exploring Münster. For those complaining about infrastructure: it is just a parking area and is described exactly as such.

Obviously, the city of Münster does not read this forum. It is a shame that the locals do not use the small spaces on the outskirts and free up the large lots. This means it is always a struggle for visitors to the city to find a parking spot here.

I don't understand the other commenters: yes, the place is free. Yes, there are designated motorhome spaces, but the site has no infrastructure whatsoever, passenger cars park carelessly between and in front of or behind motorhomes, locals use the site to store their vehicles, caravans and trailers are also parked randomly, and the municipal police do not intervene.

Large parking lot in the Mauritz district with nothing, but free. Therefore recommended for one or two nights while sightseeing in Münster.

The positive: You are allowed to park your motorhome and sleep inside. The negative: There are relatively few spaces, most of which are misused by locals as storage spaces. We drove on.

The parking area is used by Münster residents at 70% as permanent parking for their motorhomes. I have never seen anything like this in any other city. Otherwise, it is fine for a free place.

Great parking lot; in the afternoon there is plenty of space, but please park economically. In the morning, 1,000 schoolchildren's cars arrive, as they also have to park here.

Excellent free city parking lot. Saturday night was very quiet, with hardly any cars until 9:00 a.m. The old town is about a 30-minute walk away. Opposite the entrance is a nice little park for walking the dog. A small orange trash bin was by the bus spaces, and a glass container was near the entrance.
