4x4 access only
Getting here needs an off-road vehicle. Check your ground clearance before setting off.
A beautiful, peaceful riverside spot near the Alta Canyon hiking trail, which starts nearby and is approximately 13km from the parking lot. Access is difficult and the final 100m requires a 4x4 with high ground clearance. The area has many mosquitoes, although wind reduces them.

Nice spot with a river nearby, but far too many mosquitoes; we could not stay.
Scenically beautiful motorhome spot. Lots of mosquitoes, but that is normal in this region. Once some wind picks up, there are noticeably fewer mosquitoes. You absolutely must not fish here—it is a salmon river (Altaelva), and fishing permits are allocated by lottery (only 75 permits for non-Norwegians). To reach the spot directly by the river, extra ground clearance and 4x4 are required.
Coming from Alta, turn left onto a 600-meter-long forest track. After 500 meters there are two bays for overnight stays. The final 100 meters to the river are advisable only with four-wheel drive and plenty of ground clearance.
