12-20 Route de Vaugelas, 38730, Virieu sur Bourbre
Been here?
Free motorhome service area on a busy main road; traffic, motorbikes and trucks audible throughout the day. Squat toilet and water available, but water shuts off seasonally in winter. Well-maintained with picnic facilities. Avoid events that may close access.

Very peaceful night. Excellent starting point for numerous treks.
Very nice area for spending a night. Toilet and water. Quiet, although cars pass in the morning. Thank you to the municipality.
We visited this free motorhome area, but an event was taking place today, so the whole camping area was closed for it and we had to find another place. We did not see the exact dates, but a poster said 13–20 June, so be careful not to drive here for nothing. It was also closed today in another village. Check in advance. Bye!
Very nice place. But in the 21st century, having no 4G is shameful. What a pity. I will not come back.
Many thanks to the municipality. Everything you need is available.
Another huge thank-you to this municipality for creating such a lovely motorhome area, with free waste disposal and water. The bakery and other shops are 400 metres downhill in the village, offering good bread. We will shop locally. Bravo! At 8 p.m. there are three motorhomes here.
Unfortunately right next to a fairly busy road. After a village idiot drove up and down the hill at full speed ten times between midnight and 1 a.m., including a handbrake turn with squealing tyres at the end, there was heavy traffic again from 7 a.m., including lorries. On the positive side, there is a lovely bakery in the village below, behind the petrol station.
In this region, where motorhome areas are rare, this one deserves credit for existing. Apart from some traffic, it is a pleasant place. Free services and parking. Thank you, mayor.
Lovely little spot with everything needed for emptying and refilling. The only drawback is that it is next to the road leading up to the château. During the day, on Easter Monday, there was a constant stream of motorbikes, making it difficult to nap. I cannot comment on the night because we stopped at lunchtime for a meal break.
We had a quiet night there. However, we could neither use the toilet, which is a squat toilet, nor refill fresh water. Waste disposal was also unavailable, apparently because the water pipes are shut off in winter.
I regularly use this area and have just seen that the water is turned off, probably for the winter. Just so you know.
Thank you to the municipality for this pleasant little free area with services included. Magnificent château.
A nice place to stay overnight, although the toilet and waste disposal station need renovating and regular maintenance. Everything is present and working, however, and we spent a quiet night. In the morning we visited the Château, unfortunately closed.
Excellent free service area with fresh water, grey water and cassette disposal. It also looks like a very pleasant place to spend the night. Thanks to the town for creating it.
Thank you to the municipality for this friendly and welcoming space.
Thank you to the municipality for this free and clean area.
Rustic, but it has everything needed, even books. However, the internet signal is very weak.
A wonderful little site just outside the village. Water services but no electricity hookup. Very quiet and beautiful, with space for around six motorhomes, provided free of charge by the local council. Thank you, Virieu-sur-Bourbre, for providing this space for us.
Nice spot with all amenities. We spent a quiet night here with two other vehicles and a lorry on the other side of the road.
We arrived around 6 p.m.; it was full, with six or seven campers parked very close together. One camper suggested squeezing in even more. Really nice solidarity. I declined and appreciated the offer. The space is very tight.
Perfect: clean and quiet.
Great place. The road may be noisy during the day but is calm at night. The watermill wheel runs continuously with a pleasant sound. There is a stream, toilet, water and black-water disposal. Thank you to the local community for this place.
Great place to stop. We spent one night alongside five caravans. Very quiet; respect the silence and surroundings. There is free black- and grey-water disposal and fresh-water refilling. There are also toilets, which we did not use.
We stopped for lunch and to fill and empty our tanks, but in our opinion the area can accommodate no more than four motorhomes.
Incredible area, very picturesque and peaceful. All services work perfectly. Thanks to the village for allowing this place.
At least one municipality that thinks about motorhomes, because finding somewhere to fill and empty tanks in this area is not easy. Thanks again; it was great.
A perfect spot for one night. Green and quiet, with a little passing traffic. Free-roaming chickens, so be careful if you have a dog. Functional outdoor tap with a large basin. Recommended.
Lovely and pleasant place. The exact coordinates are more likely E 5°28'40", N 45°28'54".
Pleasant motorhome area. Free-roaming chickens. Free water refilling and waste disposal. Thank you, municipality.
Wonderful little green haven! Some cars pass in the evening before 10 p.m. and in the morning, but nothing disturbing. Thank you to the town hall for this rest area with free services!
Beautiful shady location at the edge of the village. All facilities are provided free of charge. There is a stream with an old waterwheel and picnic tables in the area. The village has interesting buildings, a bakery and a small supermarket, and many signposted walks. Thank you to the village for this great place to stop. We will return.
Unfortunately, this morning they put up a no-parking sign. So it is no longer possible to stay in this beautiful, quiet car park where we also spent the night alone.
