15 Prestegårdsveien, 9514, Alta
Been here?
This is a free, somewhat hidden gravel parking area directly behind Alta’s old town, within walking distance of the centre and Northern Lights Cathedral. It is suitable for an overnight stop, with shops, bars and the cathedral nearby, but you must be self-sufficient because there are no services. The area is generally quiet, although the road is audible, and rain can leave puddles, mud and slippery access paths.

Parking in the center. Ideal for taking a walk. On Sundays, parking is free.Translating
Good free pitch on a larger gravel area. The town center is easily reachable on foot in less than 1 km. You cannot go wrong here for sightseeing and/or an overnight stop.Translating
Place close to the center, not too crowded. I stayed here the whole weekend, went hiking on Saturday, and was still able to find a spot easily in the afternoon. The road is definitely audible, but still tolerable.Translating
Very good location. The center is quickly reachable on foot. There are a few nice bars in town. Shopping center nearby. Quiet location. Excellent as a parking spot for one night.Translating
Good place to spend the night. When it rains, there are some puddles and a bit of mud, so be careful.Translating
Close to town, safe and quiet during day and night. But don’t expect to keep your shoes clean or have an easy walk to town. Both the access road and the short trail uphill towards town stay wet for a long time, expect slippery and middy parts.
Good place to spend the night. Cathedral and shops nearby.Translating
Ideal place! We spent one night there. There were many of us, but it was very quiet. Perfect distance from the town, cathedral and aquatic center. Be careful, it becomes very muddy when it rains.Translating
Free pitch directly below the Northern Lights Cathedral, which is easily reachable on foot in no more than 7 minutes. Shopping centers nearby. The place filled up very quickly, but we felt very comfortable.Translating

Found it easily thanks to the description! Popular place! Quiet for one night.Translating
After everywhere else was full, we looked for a place here for one night to continue toward the North Cape. It turned out to be good. It was quiet and close to shops.Translating
Great for walking quickly to the cathedral and the town center. No other amenities.Translating
Great place and free! No service facilities, but close to town.Translating
Quiet place to spend the night. About a 5-minute walk to the Northern Lights Cathedral.Translating
Free parking without services near the town center.Translating
Pitch directly by the church in a gravel parking area. We spent one night there while passing through. It was okay. Beware with very large and heavy motorhomes—the access to the parking area has a hump, and depending on the size, the motorhome may scrape its underside!Translating
No services, but a brilliant place to park: flat, little road noise and felt safe.Translating
Thank you very much for offering this free parking area in Alta (Prestegårdsveien 15, 9514). We spent the night here and everything was perfect: quiet and safe. Although there are no services, we slept very well. We are very grateful for this space.Translating
Had a quiet night and it is close to the center. Please take your rubbish with you.Translating
Accessible with winter tires. The parking area is cleared of snow, but there is some ice. You can access it with caution.Translating
Closed in winter, inaccessible because there is no snow clearance service.
Great place to spend the night. You need nothing more. Quiet and without excessive street lighting. The listed coordinates are exact.
Highly recommended for visiting the cathedral and the center. There are no services. We slept very well.
Great place to spend one night and shop on the main street.
Quiet parking area near the town, not easy to find.
Very central parking area. 900 meters from the cathedral and town center. It is dirt, and if it rains it becomes a quagmire. The town was celebrating a festival and the locals were celebrating with music and singing, but I think they have every right, don't you? Honestly, I slept soundly. Thank you, Alta, for this place.
Special motorhome parking area, but quiet. Take the path uphill on the right, which leads directly to the town in 5 minutes. Another important fact: there is no old town; everything is modern. The Kiwi supermarket is also very expensive. No services, but after miles and miles of mountain bends, what a pleasure!
Level gravel parking area without services, with access to the town via a small path (5 minutes). We slept there peacefully with 15 motorhomes. To find it, as soon as you see the dead-end sign, it is on a small path to the right.
Very nice place near the center. Plenty of space, easy access and free!
