A perfect country pub. Very welcoming with great food and drink and a lovely beer garden. Secure and flat good sized car park with an adjacent field for walking dogs. It is also very convenient for the M40 and we hope to return.
We came here unannounced during the week and asked at 7 p.m. if we could stay overnight. Everyone was very friendly and we were immediately allowed to stay. We ordered before the kitchen closed and had delicious food. The homemade pies are highly recommended! The site is relatively level; road noise was barely audible because of the rain, and hardly noticeable even without it. Dogs welcome.Translating
An absolutely charming place, a very beautiful house. A very friendly and warm welcome. The food was excellent; I thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend it. Thank you again. I'm French, and I was able to spend the night in my van in the quiet parking lot.
You can stay if you have a meal. Food was excellent. The triple cooked chips are to die for. Flat iron steak and French onion stew were excellent.
Pulled in here and unfortunately the pub had changed management HOWEVER they new management let us park in his car park. He locked us in for the night. The pub opens on the 16/10/25. Steve the manager was so accommodating. Beautiful place/village, so peaceful and quiet. Good luck Steve on your new adventure.
There is place for around 3 campers by the road in front of the gare to old big parking. Enough to sleep, but only for this.
Unfortunately, the large car park is currently closed, but we parked at the front, directly by the house. We arrived after 11 p.m., when there was hardly any traffic, and only woke at 8 a.m. because of the sun. The grass is mowed and the refrigeration units are running. A man parked here in his small car made extra room for us and said he didn’t work here, but knew the owner was looking for someone new.Translating
The pub is currently closed and looking for a new landlord. Hopefully it will continue to offer stopovers. Information dated April 17th 2025.
Lovely clean pub with good atmosphere. very friendly staff. Just book in advance and leave your details at the bar for insurance purposes. Quite a noisy road but not a problem. Would stay again and recommend to others. Thanks for letting us stay.
Very good meal in pub last night. Thanks to new owner Paul and staff for letting us park our motorhome in the car carpark for free (with electric hookup) :). Very quiet apart from minor M40 noise in background
This Pub is open again, the couple now running it are brilliant. They close at 5 on Sunday. We arrived around 7 and they let us stay anyway in their large car park. Very peaceful night. Will return.
Although this pub isn’t taking campers at the moment we travelled further up the road and came across another lovely pub - The Ben Jonson. The owner let us stay in his car park for free. Very friendly and accommodating. Although we didn’t get a drink in the pub as they were closed preparing for a private function it looks a stunning pub.
I called the Chequers to book an overnight stay. The lady said they couldn’t offer anywhere to stay, but hoped to accommodate motorhomes in the future.Translating

Brilliant park up for a peaceful nights rest. Large car park suitable for several campervans/ motorhomes.
17/4/24 nice level pub stop, safe and quiet. Phone ahead to book a table. Was bit pricey but nice food and welcoming atmosphere.
Very good stopover. We managed to get a space. Recommended!Translating
Great stopover on my way to Dover we had food and drink at the pub which was exceptional and could not fault it. The staff were more than welcoming the surrounding areas very pleasant inside and out.
Arrived on a Sunday, so the pub was closing at 5 p.m.; we managed to have a drink before closing. Friendly staff at the pub. Plenty of space in the car park, and the field beside it was good for the dog, although boggy in places.Translating
we had travelled for many a mile over many months and needed a restful sleep and a place to eat. very friendly very helpful great food especially the fish and chips reasonable price lovely clean quiet car park you won't go wrong.
Excellent location with great access to the M40 and A34. Great food with some excellent specials, very good service and not too expensive. I would definitely stop here again and have no problem recommending it.
A nice car park opening up onto fields but expensive. The food choice is very basic - burgers, pies, grilled meat or fish & chips basically with no healthy options. 2 main courses and a couple of drinks cost us over £50, note they include service charges on the bill so your pie & chips is nearly £20..The location is good, the pub friendly but at this price you could stay on a fabulous campsite.
Lovely people and great food, with a level parking area. 10/10.Translating
We had a very good night! Quiet; we weren’t alone, but there was enough space for everyone. A paradise for dogs, who could roam in the adjacent field! :)Translating
