Μονοπ. Στενά του Νέστου, 671 00, Galani
Been here?
This large parking area beside the Nestos river beach offers drinking water, toilets and access to a riverside walk and bar. Recent reports describe severe mosquitoes, with cars and motorbikes sometimes continuing until late at night, although some nights were quiet. Reception is available only in some areas. The cold water, nature and Nestos-Rodopi Trail are the main attractions.

Cars and motorcycles pass until late at night (on weekdays). Signal works in some places but not others. If there are no mosquitoes here for you, you are probably a vampire. Otherwise, beautiful nature, icy water, the walk, and the bar are all great. Not ideal for sleeping overnight. I arrived at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and could barely find a parking space; definitely better off-season.
Quiet night. Only one dog, but it did not bark. Cars arrive and leave until 10 p.m., then it is quiet until morning. No mosquitoes. Beautiful hike along the Nestos-Rodopi Trail. Drinking water and clean toilets were open. Use the parking area and facilities respectfully.
Quiet night, stray dogs but very friendly, no signal.
We spent a wonderful night here. Very quiet on Mondays after 11 p.m.! The adjacent sandbank is perfect for picnics. The bar is also highly recommended! The owners are very nice and confirmed that we could stay in the parking area.
Until about 8 p.m., the village youngsters were riding partly noisy mopeds around the parking area. However, I experienced no personal harassment. It became quieter afterward and the night was very peaceful. Life started up again in the parking area at 8 a.m. If that bothers you, it is better not to come here. Overall, however, a very good place, also accessible for large motorhomes.
I don't understand all the good reviews for this place. I was here in the middle of the week in March, and cars and excessively loud motorbikes were coming non stop until 2 in the night, just to drive away again... One of them stopped right next to my van and started yelling to make sure I wasn't getting any sleep. Maybe some nights it will be ok, but you're taking a gamble.
We spent one night here, very lovely. Quiet. Toilets were open. Limited reception. Great little hike. Friendly dogs live there, no issues with our own dog. Cafe/Bar is also great. Would recommend!
We slept here from Saturday to Sunday. There was quite a lot of traffic until 3:00 a.m., so it may be quieter during the week. Apart from that, the parking area is excellent for an overnight stay. We set out on the trail in the morning, which allowed us to walk it without many people. Drinking water is available by the toilets. The bar is open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Very beautiful here.
We spent two very peaceful nights here. Yesterday, October 28, “No Day,” there were many people in the parking area and hikers. The Nestos Trail is a path that runs above the river and is not difficult. This morning, the water was turned off! Mystery.
Great place. Water, toilets, and absolute peace at night. Starting point for the meanders trail. Highly recommended.
super place to sleep. you start the hike next to the river from there. also toilets and possibility to connect to water in 2 places with fast connector.
Great place to sleep and swim in the river. The parking lot was busy until 10pm then it was very quiet.
A truly magical place now in spring, the songs of the birds are echoing between the mountains. There is a very large sandy river beach with a small bar where people hang out peacefully. On “Good Friday”, a holiday in the local religion where it is not allowed to have fun, there was a loud dubstep party all night, which I found quite funny. The other nights were quiet. Well-maintained hiking trail.
Hikers beware that the train line is still/again in use!! Just encountered a friendly but very real freight train. Otherwise a great spot, except no phone signal.
Great place to spend a quiet night and refill water. Beautiful trail/ path for hikers.
Beautiful place with toilets, rubbish bins, fresh water, hiking trails, and a huge river beach. The stray dogs are very kind and relaxed; they also caused no problems with our dog.
Actually a beautiful place, but on weekends it is full of cars heading to the tavern. A beautiful path runs upstream along the Nestos River. We walked as far as Rockpass (2.6 km). Worth it. Swimming in the river is difficult because of the current. Two stars because from Friday to Saturday night, very loud techno music played from 11:30 p.m. We fled.
Pretty location and bonus it has water, bin and toilets but it’s just a car park. No views and because it’s popular it’s busy and noisy even after dark. Large pack of stray dogs barking on and off throughout the night.
Fantastic place. Indeed, parking at the beginning is best because of the crowds. Close to the tap and toilets. It is quiet at night, and freshening up in the river in the morning is wonderful. The dogs are cute, but they start barking around 6:30 when the first cars arrive.
Very good place to spend the day and sleep. Quiet at night, many cars during the day. Lots of possible activities. Drinking water and toilets. Park near the beginning of the lot.
