A496, LL45 2LP, Llanbedr
Been here?
This is a wide, mostly level lay-by on the A496 overlooking fields, the sea, Shell Island and Snowdonia. It is free, has no signs prohibiting overnight parking, and offers striking sunsets and sunrises. Nights are usually quiet, although road noise can continue until about 11pm and traffic resumes around 6:30am. A footpath across the road leads uphill through fields, while the location can be windy and is somewhat overlooked.

A really beautiful spot for one night. For on-lead dogs, there's a great looping footpath walk through sheep and cow fields across the road (uphill). We stayed on a Sunday night and it was incredibly quiet. We were beeped by the local bin lorry in the morning whilst having breakfast but otherwise had no bother. No services.Translating
Good wide LayBye on northbound A496, but separation grass bank to road is quite narrow so get a lot of road noise until 11pm ish. Overlooked a bit by few cottages on other side of road. Great views towards Shell Island and Snowdonia Flight Training School centre on former RAF airfield. Good stopover for Harlech if you can’t get in anywhere else a bit closer.Translating
Really nice stop over. Quiet during the night, traffic picks back up about 6:30am. Stunning sunset and sunrise. Views over fields and sea. Free layby, no signs to stop overnight parking. Translating
Two fairly quiet nights.Translating
Lovely lay by for few vans. Overnighted with great views of the new lambs and fields. There is another lay by a little further ahead also on opposite side of the road. Did have a few horn bibs in the morning, first one at 5am, not sure why, just enjoying the Wales Way and spending our money benefiting local towns and villages…Translating
Super fantastic scenic lay-by. Views of sand dunes, sea and mountains. Added bonus for plane fans is opposite the flight training air field. Large and set back from road and mostly level. Quiet and very dark after rush hour traffic. Very few horn honkers and had a peaceful sleep with breakfast with an epic view.Translating
Amazing large lay-by, set back from the main road, with fantastic views and a beautiful sunset. No issues at all. The Snowdonia flight school is here too!Translating
Good enough for one night if you arrive late and leave in the morning. It can be windy. The road is quiet at night.Translating

Great park up overlooking the coast. Lovely sunset. A bit of road noise but that's to be expected. No problems with horn honkers, had a very peaceful night. Will definitely use this place again. Translating
Beautiful place. It is just a shame that some locals think it is acceptable to drive into the lay-by alongside you and bang on the sides of your motorhome, shouting and scaring the living daylights out of my children—and others blow their horns :(Translating
Stayed overnight during torrential rain and gale-force winds, so we moved across the road for some shelter. A few passing cars blew their horns, but there was no trouble.Translating
Great spot with fantastic views.Translating
