CA8 7AR, Gilsland
Been here?
A small, flat forest-side esplanade at the end of a dead-end road, suitable for about 2 vans. It is secluded and generally very quiet, with occasional cars, dog walkers and nearby RAF activity causing helicopter noise or explosions. There are no services, but internet reception is good. Midges can be a significant problem, and the trees limit the view.

Great little spot with very little traffic, so we had a quiet night.
There are lots of midges. We do not recommend it.
Beautiful spot in the trees, quiet road, red squirrels running around, loved it. A few explosions that rattled the van from the nearby military base but other than that very peaceful
Lovely quiet space for 2 vans to park up. The only downside to it is midges. We were here in mid May. We have a fly screen on the van door but they still got in. The odd car passed and occasional dog walkers but we had a peaceful, undisturbed night - except for the midges.
We are two adults in a Trafic with two dogs. We arrived at 7 p.m. There were a few cars passing until 8 p.m. (dog walkers and farmers). The evening and night were very calm and pleasant. Several cars passed at 9 a.m. the next morning. Be aware: the spot is right next to a military site. We heard three loud explosions spaced out around 11 a.m.
Very peaceful and secluded, although near to an active RAF base, some helicopter noises into the night, very close by, luckily our dog is fine with the noise but other dogs might find it unsettling.
Lots of young people apparently turned up for a party in the forest. Not for us, so we left.
Very quiet. Enough room for two. Phone signal isn't too bad. Not sure about the walks, as it was raining very heavily.
4 stars as it has no views but it is so unbelievably quiet here with a very peaceful feeling. yes the odd vehicle passes, but still soooooo quiet. there is also a track opposite for a good off lead dog walk if you have dogs. Didn't find a previously mentioned river though.
Perfect for spending one night. Quiet spot, but the view is partly blocked by fir trees. Far from everything, which is what we are looking for.
