Rua de Portela
Been here?
Mountain-top picnic area with spacious parking, flat spaces, tables, shade, water, toilets currently locked, and wide views for sunset and sunrise. It is a peaceful overnight location surrounded by beautiful nature, with forest rangers present in the tower during summer. Access follows the “Miradouro” sign from the N103, using a 2 km pebble road. Overflowing rubbish has sometimes been scattered around the area.

This place is a picnic area on top of a beautiful mountain. It has all you need: stunning views of sunset and sunrise, water, tables, shades, flat parking and toilets (currently locked). The forest rangers sit up in the tower 24h during the summer and were very friendly, gave us their number in case we saw something suspicious (like arsonists). Very quiet, we did not hear a sound all night. Top!
This place looked magnificent, but unfortunately the road is closed because of fire danger.
We found the culprit behind the rubbish bins!!! It is a dog (very affectionate but also hungry) that scatters everything. It would be best to take the rubbish with you to avoid a sea of waste. Toilets open but tap closed (it was open a week ago). The place is magical, please respect it; toilet paper is not the dog's fault :( (tip: use a toilet-paper bag or the toilets, thank you).
Toilet locked, seems locked for a long time
I'm staying at this place tonight. Lovely place with easy access and beautiful nature all around.
Magical place! The most beautiful view in Portugal, with magnificent sunsets and sunrises. A few rubbish bins are overflowing, but apart from that it is perfect! I recommend it! Thank you.
Great spot, unique view, many different places where you can park!
We came to spend a weekday night in October with a 6 m van and it was perfect. The view and surroundings are superb (although because the bins are full, the wind blows rubbish everywhere, and there are enormous antennas). Despite that, a solid 5 stars for the peace and quiet, the goats, and even the shepherd dog, which played with ours. There are toilets, water, tables, and a barbecue.
We spent the night in our car. There were a few people hanging there at night but they didn’t bother much. Like the last review mentioned the path that appears as cut off in Google Maps is the best way to come up and I recommend taking that one. The bathrooms however were locked, but the tables with shadow, the water spots and grills are a great plus. Great views as well. Totally recommend!
An absolute gem. Do not try to drive from the east road (portela village) as it's unpassable. Even though Google maps didn't want to lead us from the south (frades village), the road wasn't actually closed. There are many spots here, we were alone though.
Very good spot, with many places to shelter from the wind. People come to watch the sunset or have a picnic, but it is not bothersome, and after sunset nobody remains. Picnic tables, barbecue, water point, rubbish bins… really great!
We spent a magical night there, alone. The guard's car was behind the church, but nobody said anything to us. The place is superb, enigmatic, and welcoming. We parked on the lower level below the chapel. However, it is a shame to see rubbish scattered everywhere... we collected as much as possible before leaving.
We spent one night there with two vans. Superb view, a haven of peace!
Currently inaccessible due to forest fires in the region.
Magnificent, but no water available on site and the toilets are closed.
Very beautiful and quiet. The GPS took me along a dirt road and I had to turn around. Impossible to climb. The other, stone-paved road is perfect. Locals come during the day, but they are very nice. They came to greet me and chat. Perfect night and spectacular sunrise. Keep it clean!!
Good spot with an incredible 360-degree view. We are at an altitude of 1,025 m, but beware: the paved road up is very steep and may not be suitable for large motorhomes.
Superb place ! Astonishing view of the valley, plenty hike around and plenty space - the climbing area is small but fun and the rocks are out of this world. Many locals come here during the day but because space is really big, not a big deal either as not crowded and super quiet at night.
Beautiful view, lots of space, flat, 4G. However, beware: it is very exposed in windy conditions and dirty. The toilets were closed when we were there. Water beside the toilets.
Amazing spot, beautiful views, easy access to
Excellent spot, the road is a little narrow and steep; we had a van, so it was fine. On the left side of the climb everything is burned, but there are no signs of fire at the top. Table and barbecue available.
Lots of space, with the possibility of settling in many different places, so you can stay far from one another. Superb sunset and 360° view, very quiet night. The only drawback is the rubbish.
