Route des Alpes, CF15, Cardiff
Been here?
A flat parking bay for two large campervans beside a lightly trafficked country road, with good Cardiff views and access to Garth Mountain hikes. Approach from the Pentrych side; the Gwaelod-y-garth route has a steep hairpin and is difficult even for smaller vans. Local youngsters may park around the site, and some evening activity has been reported.

I chose to ignore the previous review in a long-wheelbase Sprinter and nearly burned out my clutch. Beautiful spot, but go the other way around, kids.
DO NOT COME UP TO THIS SPOT FROM THE Gwaelod-y-garth SIDE! We got completely stuck. There is a hairpin turn on a very steep hill. We are only in a small van, but we had to get locals to help pull us up because our wheels were spinning. Other than that, nice and flat spot. Some kids in the early evening. Bin nearby.
The lake is very beautiful, but it is not a pleasant place. You are right next to the road. The road was busy through the night with fishermen and people launching their boats. In the morning, an officer politely asked us to move elsewhere because we were standing too close to the lake. There was also a lot of rubbish on the ground.
