Furkastrasse, 6491, Realp
Been here?
Reported permanently closed — overnight parking/camping banned since 1.9.22
Simple, free lay-by high above Realp with sweeping mountain views, popular as a base for hikes, bike routes and climbs nearby. Overnight stays here are now banned; a nearby gravel track charges a toll (10 CHF first 24h, 2 CHF each additional day) where camping is tolerated. A small mountain-fed fountain up the road provides water but there are no other facilities. The access road is quiet at night, and the site offers big skies and clear stars.

Drive up the gravel road opposite and pay the toll for the road (10 CHF for the first 24 hours, 2 CHF for each additional 24 hours). Many vans are parked spaced out at the top. It is tolerated and wonderfully beautiful.
Overnight stays and camping have been prohibited since September 1, 2022. Use Andermatt train station in summer or Zumdorf, an official paid site, instead.
We filled up our water here. There is a small fountain near the waterfall on the mountainside.
