Mal Vit, 26190, Rochechinard
Been here?
Free parking at a church square with magnificent views across the valley and nearby hiking trails to a château. Free water point at the cemetery entrance; museum toilets are seasonally available. Small chapel nearby. Ideal for quiet 1–2 night stops, though one commenter noted difficulty accessing the fountain, so arrive with adequate water.

Great place, quiet despite a village festival with music late into the night!
Beautiful place with a superb view, quiet, with hiking trails starting here. The hike to the castle is worthwhile; be aware that it climbs. Toilets closed this season.
I stayed one night in September. It was one of my most beautiful nights and a wonderful wake-up call in the sunshine. Bathroom nearby and very clean, please keep it that way.
Good place for one or two nights. Quiet, with a magnificent view despite the cemetery. Very pretty chapel. The museum toilets are accessible, but please respect the place; the toilets were not very clean when we arrived, which I find disheartening and shows a lack of consideration.
It is very idyllic. The toilet is no luxury but perfectly adequate. There is running water next to the cemetery. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe.
Magnificent view! Quiet! Free water point at the cemetery entrance! Toilets available at the museum.
Wonderful and very quiet place, good for spending the night. In the morning we began the walk shown on the information board, which passes the château. Beyond the château the path becomes narrow and, partly because of the heavy rain yesterday, very poor. After a short stretch we turned around and walked back the same way. The water tap at the cemetery was closed.
Excellent spot, quiet and with a magnificent view.
Excellent place. Magnificent view over the Vercors and the Isère plain. Small chapel and museum. Water is available beside the cemetery entrance. Toilets were accessible when we visited. We stayed one peaceful night. A one-hour hike to the castle is possible.
Very quiet place; we found it clean—if only everyone did the same so it stays that way! We spent a very pleasant night. However, we could not get water from the fountain, so we recommend not coming without water and relying solely on this fountain.
Super spot with a magnificent view! Drinking water beside the cemetery, large parking area and several starting points for short hikes.
Very quiet spot; we had a great night with a lovely view over the valley. A little extra: we fell asleep lulled by the hooting of owls. A place to preserve.
A little spot we have been visiting for years in the off-season. We love the peace, the view and the walks.
Large parking area in front of the small church at the top of the village, accessible to all types of vehicles. Magnificent views of the surroundings, absolute quiet—the church bells ring vigorously at 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. Hiking is possible. Bins are available, as is a small tap at the cemetery entrance. A superb stopover.
Extremely quiet and splendid view.
Depending on whether you arrive from St. Nazaire or St. Jean-en-Royans, the road is more or less narrow. Once you arrive, a magnificent panorama over the valley and complete silence await you. In summer, from 3 to 7 p.m., I highly recommend visiting the small Royans museum; its volunteer will reveal its secrets. The church bells rang vigorously at 8 a.m.
Spacious spot with a beautiful 360-degree view over the valley and the Vercors. Very little traffic, apart from a car at 7 a.m. picking up local children for the bus.
We stayed for two nights. The view was breathtaking. At the time, we were alone at night. Unfortunately, the museum toilet was closed; the museum opens from June to September. Nice starting point for a hike. The castle ruins were also closed because of excavations.
We drove from Lausanne, Switzerland to this place and it was very dark when we arrived. When we woke up the view from the top was amazing and really nice sunrise
