Monastery parking, very expensive

There is absolutely no way this is a 4 rating. In case you didn't know these aren't car parks. There is a road barrier blocking access to the Basilica and on either side of the road are slanted small bays for cars. Some campers move to the bus drop off point in the evening which is more flat but they have to move at 6.30am. No mobile wifi signal for us.

The monastery visit and hike were very enjoyable, but the parking price is excessive. €7 normally for the day would be fine, but we paid €20 because the camera at the parking entrance classified us as a class 2 vehicle (large motorhome), even though we had a van under 2 m. No appeal and quite a scam for using the parking for 4 hours! You might as well plan to stay overnight for €22.50 if that suits you ;-)✦Translating

Paid parking, excellent for visiting the monastery and possibly setting off for treks or walks. We spent one night there; it was quiet and slightly sloping. We paid €22.50 the following morning at the entrance cashier, not at the machines. Toilets are available but closed in the evening.✦Translating

Although the rate is €20 for 24 hours and must be paid manually so they don’t charge us €80, they charged us €22.50 and told us that the extra €2.50 was for having slept there. We didn’t see this price on any of the signs. We were able to park quite close to the monastery, occupying the same space as a car, but paying three times more.✦Translating

Come early, before the buses arrive, or in the afternoon until evening… then many have left and you can park and spend the night with a wonderful view… observe the 24-hour limit and pay €20 NOT at the machine, but at the exit barrier cashier… works perfectly.✦Translating

We parked to see Montserrat at 5 p.m. When leaving at 8 p.m., the machine charged €80 (bus rate). To pay the €20 motorhome rate, you have to do it at the manual kiosk at the entrance. We went there and nobody was attending anymore. We asked the security guard, who said that if nobody was there, we could leave since the barrier was open. So it was free.✦Translating

I left the car overnight to sleep in the mountains and it was great. One day costs €7; since more than 24 hours had passed, I paid €8.50. Two days would be €14. You pay, but it’s an unguarded car park. Don’t leave anything visible; nothing happened to my car for that reason. Although there is free parking before the entrance, I recommend paying if you leave it alone overnight to sleep in the mountains. Sleeping in the car park is prohibited.✦Translating

Great place. A bit sloped everywhere. €22.50. We stayed 2 nights. Pay at the kiosk by the barrier. The cost there was €22.50, while the machine asked for €88. The camper rate is different. We had a lovely and challenging hike.✦Translating

Brilliant stop over - incredible views and a peaceful night. The spaces are sloping but there are plenty of options that aren't too bad. Follow the 'manual' lane to pay at the kiosk on exit.

All spaces are sloping. From 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. you may use the level bus parking area, but at 8 you have to leave and move when the buses arrive. Great view from above, especially in the evening.✦Translating

Unfortunately, we trusted the other reviews which mainly evaluate the amazing views. And they don't rate parking spaces. Those are horrible. As if we were parked on the slope and above the gorge. The slope of the parking lots cannot be compensated. I recommend parking in the village and taking the cog up.
