A daytime parking area beside the forest and Wachauarena, only a few metres from the pedestrian bridge into Melk’s historic centre and close to Melk Abbey. It offers no services and has attractive views of the abbey. Recent information indicates parking restrictions and signs stating that camping is prohibited, so outdoor equipment and overnight stays should not be used. The area can become busy during events.

Excellent parking for visiting Melk's old town during the day. It is only a few metres from the car park across a pedestrian bridge to the historic centre. Through the old town you can also reach Melk Abbey.
Unfortunately, when we arrived there were no-parking signs everywhere and a sign saying “Camping prohibited.”
Perfect for visiting the abbey and the town by crossing a historic bridge.
We parked here to take a walk around the city. Incredible views of the abbey. Perfect for a while. We did not spend the night here.
Great view of the abbey, a short walk into town and quiet. However, camping is prohibited, meaning no furniture or awning may be put out.
Great for visiting the town and abbey. Our 7.20 m vehicle passed without any problems.
Free car park, very well located for visiting the abbey. Accessible to large vehicles. There was nobody there when we arrived, so we parked our 7.5 m vehicle along the side.
Unfortunately, we could not stay here because there was an event and the car park was full. The parking attendant recommended the car park just before the bridge, which is also free. We slept there without any problems; I am attaching a photo of the nighttime view.
The car park is extremely large, and the view of the abbey is magnificent. It is a shame there is currently a marquee right in the middle. There is a no-camping sign, so you cannot put anything outside, place wheel chocks under the wheels, or open outward-opening windows. It also said that parking is prohibited for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
Not welcome in Melk! Informed by feuer offizial (fire service), along with 2 other vans, that camping cars are not allowed in any parking area except the official Melk stellplatz. When questioned that there were no signs to say that and we had checked it was ok with tourist info, we were informed that camping was not allowed in the whole of Austria! Maybe moved as an event on? Shame. We left Melk
Very nice spot. When arriving, we hesitated because of the no-parking signs. In reality, there was some construction work and it was enough to respect the designated areas. Melk and the abbey are definitely worth seeing.
Fine for visiting the castle and the nearby park. We did not spend the night.
