The Gate Hangs High

Great for a lunchtime stop at the restaurant and to empty the toilet and fill up with water for free when you eat at the restaurant. Note that there is a grey-water drainage point, but you cannot park over it. Very welcoming. Large green area for spending the night or safely exercising the dog.

If I could rate 6 stars out of 5 I would. we called to this place on a whim as somewhere to hopefully stay and call into diddly squat the next day. we arrived after 6 and unfortunately the pub was closed, I messaged them on Facebook and they could not have been more welcoming I met the owner, his son and wife and all were so nice. I would have no issue taking my dog and staying a few days

To me, this is a place to stay if - 1 - someone likes the idea of camping grounds attached to a pub and - 2 - if you need services. Quite noisy as on a busy junction. Not ideal for dogs that need to be walked as borderline dangerous to walk on the road / no trails around. Pub open every day but kitchen currently closed Monday and Tuesday. Services are basic / grey water impossible to use for drive-over.

We arrived spontaneously, which was no problem at all; the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The motorhome pitch was gravel and level, and there are electrical hookups, which we did not need. The night cost £10. The sanitary facilities were clean. We also ate at the pub, where the food was delicious and highly recommended.

Lovely pub with extremely friendly staff. Can’t recommend more for a stop over. Paid £10 for non electrical hookup in Feb. Good location for a trip around the Cotswolds and a stop over pint and food!

Very nice even in winter with a lot less going on but pub is open serving food during weekends. Gravel and grass pitches, the gravel is quite flat. Grey and black water disposal not ideal as you can’t drive over the disposal point (we have tanks, not cassette, for both grey and black).

stayed here Thursday 26th June 2025. stayed on carpark for free as we ate inside. Very welcoming staff, food was very good, beer was good we also had breakfast, in the pub, again very good although I do recommend the small it's more than ample, hubby had the large, too big Definitely would call in again when on my travels down this way

What a gem ! We dropped into the Gate Hangs High and were made welcome by the staff. We stayed overnight in our small camper van on the car park, had food and drinks in the lovely clean restaurant, and the food was great — local products and fish brought in daily from Brixham. Can't fault this one. Big credit to Nigel and his team, thank you.

Fantastic pub and open views, fairly flat car park. The landlord was very accommodating and friendly. Didn't eat, but the food looked great with good portions. We will return when back in the area.

It was a lovely place, the staff were so polite and helpful. We paid £10.00 for the night, but it was free if we ate or drank. The toilet and shower were free, but unfortunately there was only enough hot water for one person, and as there were four of us it was freezing cold afterward. I can imagine it will be lovely in the summer and we will probably come again. Very dog-friendly and a great little park for the kids to play in.

Cracking meal, field was very slippery so we elected to park on the car park. Will make an additional comment in the morning about noise etc.

Friendly chap let us park for free. Obviously we bought some drinks but sadly food was off as it was post-bank-holiday.

On arrival we were just told to park wherever we liked, and that was it. We didn’t actually locate the shower; however, judging by the state of the toilet, I wouldn’t have used it. We used the toilet in the pub instead, but believe this closes at night. Untidy premises with lots of litter scattered about the field. Okay for a pit-stop night, but there are much better pubs and cheaper rates nearby.

Stayed here last night and it was a smooth experience. The owner was very nice. He offered us free parking on the car park if we bought a couple of drinks. The desserts were great. They have a small campsite in a back field with various camping services. The car park is flatter than the field. Free use of the shower and toilet. We can’t recommend it enough.

Went to park here again as I stayed here two years ago, but when I phoned ahead they said I had to book through the website before arriving and pay online. More of an official campsite than a pub park-up now.

Stayed here last night and received a really warm welcome. The camping field at the back wasn't open due to the rain, but I was able to park on the car park. I was offered electric at no cost but didn't use it as I didn't have a plug adapter. The owner is a lovely guy and told me to spread the word. Be sure to go in the pub and have a few drinks by the log fire. I'll definitely be coming back here.

Katie and Brett are very welcoming people. The family atmosphere of the pub is very pleasant. Open every day from the morning. You can take a shower if the rooms are unoccupied. I recommend it 100% and will come back!

Several large, relatively level parking areas. When we were there on Saturday, it was absolutely quiet.
