B6260, CA10 3RG
Been here?
A free, quiet lay-by about 15 minutes from the M6, offering wide, reasonably flat parking and excellent views across the fells. It is a useful stopover near the motorway, with space for several vans and walks nearby. Some road traffic continues until around 10pm, but nights are usually quiet; distant cars and occasional early-morning activity can still be heard. There are no services.

Fab spot, very quiet and alone for a Friday night. Can easily tuck yourself away
Lovey place to stay for the night. Stunning views. Used as a half way point to Scotland as was just off the motorway. Really quite spot. Would stay here again.
Drove past this initial stop, as mentioned in the comments to another parking area on the right over the cattle grid. Was much nicer and fantastic dog walk :) lovely views and although you can hear cars in the distance it isn’t too bad :)
Very uneven ground and quite a lot of rubbish along the verge. Not very attractive. We drove on to the unpaved nature parking area a little farther on. It is nicer.
Keep on B6260 as postcode takes you to some houses . Lay-by is on left, beautiful views and a walk for the dog. Was woke up at 6am by a passing car honking his horn but other than that had a good night sleep. If there is no space here drive over cattle grid and there is another pull in on the right. We found this the next morning, much nicer ?
A great spot as you climb the hill out of Orton on the Appleby road, if you go over the cattle grid you have just missed it. a good amount of space and reasonably sheltered with fabulous views. We had a reasonably undisturbed night after 11pm apart from a local who parked up in his pick up to, once we decided he wasn't a massive murderer we slept well. Visit Orton Scar cafe for fab breakfast
very quiet spot for a stopover enroute to Scotland. two campers and a car when I stayed in late August
Really lovely spot. Fairly sheltered with some great walks from here. I have to keep it to four stars because four of the finest local youth turned up in a lovely, loud Corsa and made several visits so I bravely ran away.
Great view, very quiet. Reasonably flat and quite large. Excellent 4g signal. Some traffic on road till 10pm ish then nothing till morning. Windy but if you park right you have your sliding door open and be shielded. Easily space for 8-10 vans. Zero services but the price is right. Ideal stop off for a trip to Scotland.
Perfect free stopover. Lots of space for multiple vans on a quiet road, feels safe. Cars tuned up around 8:30am to go on walks.
Superb stopover. The site is flat, hard and free- draining. Hardly any noise from the road and at night it was totally quiet. Oh, the views are to die for :-)
Great place to stop, fantastic views, very little road noise.
Stayed last night, managed to get a reasonably flat pitch, we were the only ones there. Excellent reception on 3 mobile. Excellent views and very quiet. Reasonably sheltered from the wind , if you manage to get up the small track at the back of the car park.
Slightly sloping gravel parking at top of steep hill above Orion. Beautiful views, slightly protected from the wind. Busy fast road and cattle grid close by which you can hear. Nice walking paths all over . Spend reasonably quiet night. Good one night stop.
