Unnamed Road, 36163, Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe)
Been here?
This natural parking area is suitable for one quiet overnight stay and provides a starting point for walks around Guckaisee. The lake is about 600 m away, or a 5 min walk, and public toilets are available there. The parking surfaces are very sloped, with no bins and only limited 4G reception; 5G is unavailable. The upper area fills quickly on weekends, while a restaurant nearby is open until 22:00 with food served until 20:30.

Unfortunately, everything is very uneven. Another vehicle was parked below and had a level spot. We did not want to park directly next to it, so we drove on. No rubbish bins.Translating
Really nice and relaxing place. You can’t park or drive directly to the lake, but it’s just a 5 min walk. I parked up on the upper car park, very limited 4G cell phone reception. No 5G.
We can also recommend the lower gravel area. Several other nice campers were there as well. The lake is about 600 m away on foot; there are also public toilets there, which were surprisingly clean. It is currently tadpole season, so thousands seem to be out and about. You are allowed to swim, but you have to be comfortable with the circumstances. :)Translating
We stayed here for one night. Very quiet, and the lake is five minutes away. On weekends it gets busy quickly in the morning, since the hikes to the Wasserkuppe are rightly very popular.Translating
We are repeat visitors :-). Beautifully located in nature. Therefore, do not overinterpret the many negative comments here about the unevenness. It is not a motorhome site, but a 'place in nature'. Absolutely quiet at night - fantastic. The lower gravel area is very cozy. The restaurant by the lake is also quite good. Overall: highly recommended.Translating
You really have to search for a reasonably level spot; even with a small camper it is not easy. Otherwise, very beautiful and peaceful.Translating
I found it too sloped. With leveling chocks it can be made almost level. The surroundings are simply beautiful. From Guckaisee, take the route around to the right toward Pferdskopf, which is less steep, and then descend more steeply back to the lake. The inn seems friendly. Kitchen open until 8:30 p.m.; the premises remain open until 10 p.m.Translating
We had a very peaceful night after a delicious meal at the Guckai-Stuben. The gravel area is below the path and has a slope of about 5°. Further up there is a bus parking area that campers like to use for overnight stays.Translating
All the parking areas are sloped, with the gravel parking area having the least incline. From there it is about 300 m to the lake and about 3 km to the summit of the Wasserkuppe. This is not a campsite, so you should be restrained when setting up. The lake is highly recommended on summer days, and on busy weekends the DLRG monitors the swimmers.Translating
A little sloped but since we were the only ones we were able to park straight. No facilities. There was a thunderstorm right above us but felt safe and protective from wind and lightning. trees cover most sight from the small road going past. not much traffic
Very peaceful and beautifully located spot. Waking up to birdsong is simply wonderful! We stayed in the parking area right at the top. Also great because of its proximity to the lake and restaurant. We would happily return!Translating
Beautiful motorhome site with a great view. The site slopes downhill and you have to drive down a small hill. There are many other campers on weekends. Guckaisee, with a restaurant where you can refill water bottles, is a three-minute walk away. We would happily return!Translating
This is not a campsite! So, for anyone who does not understand: no camping, keep the awning in, take your rubbish with you, etc. It would be a shame if free camping and overnight stays were banned here.Translating
Recommended, peaceful location in nature. The gravel area below the access road is the better choice. Uneven, but close to nature.Translating
A wonderful place for an overnight stay. Very quiet and beautifully located in the forest. We stayed on the gravel area below the road. The swimming lake, restaurant, and free public toilets are 5 to 10 minutes from the site. No supply or disposal facilities.Translating
A little lower down there is a better place surrounded by trees. Quiet and peaceful at night. The lakes are very beautiful. It is worth following the trail to the nearby viewpoints.Translating
Wonderful motorhome site beside one of the most beautiful natural lakes I have ever seen. We also stayed below the main parking area on the gravel section. Dogs are forbidden at the lake, but there is no separate sign on the far shore and it is tolerated. Several others were there with their dogs. Get up early and swim in the lake. Priceless ;)Translating
