D36, 63790, Chambon-sur-Lac
Been here?
Large free mountain parking with spectacular views of Chambon Lake and valley. Slightly sloped in places; spacious enough for multiple motorhomes. Quiet and peaceful, though can be windy. Daytime brings motorbikes and cars; night is calm. Note: it is a helicopter landing zone.

Still such a beautiful view and great peace and quiet. The lake is almost at our feet.Translating
Very beautiful place in the immediate vicinity of Mont-Dore. Superb view and very quiet.Translating
Quiet, even though you are not alone. There is plenty of space. Chilly night.Translating
Very quiet parking area with a beautiful view in the morning, but quite exposed to the wind.Translating
Very large parking area with an unobstructed view of Lake Chambon and the alpine meadows. Slight slope in some areas. A little windy, but the place was very pleasant with its view :)Translating
Dream spot for a splendid sunrise over Chambon-sur-Lac. Beware of the winds.Translating
Parking area slightly sloped but with an unbeatable view of Lake Chambon. The sunrise above Chambon is magnificent! Enough room for a good ten camper vans. Otherwise, some people park a little lower in the bend. April 2026.Translating
During the day it fills up with motorcycles and cars doing drifts, but at night it is quiet and we can peacefully enjoy the scenery. The sun does not set on this side; there is an error in the comments below. It is indeed sloped, but it works for one night.Translating
Great, quiet location.Translating
In March: deserted. We were alone to enjoy the view and the peace, with very little traffic day and night. It may be windy, but it is so beautiful ;-)Translating
Great quiet spot; nobody there in November, very windy and slightly sloped. Magnificent view over the valley and Lake Chambon.Translating
Really pleasant, quiet place, slightly hidden from the road and close to a trailhead.Translating
Very quiet in November. Magnificent view. No other vans or motorhomes.Translating
Few people at this time of year, magnificent view over the valley. Hiking trailheads all around. Quite peaceful.Translating
Really perfect. We were the only ones there that day. Fantastic scenery. Going back up to the Col de la Croix Saint-Robert (300 m), there are several hiking trailheads, including the Grande Cascade.Translating
Great for one night; be careful not to park in the helicopter area.Translating
Magnificent place. Be careful, the spaces fill up quickly because there are many people, but it is quiet. Helipad next to it.Translating
We spent two consecutive nights here after hiking in Mont-Dore. Superb view! There were many of us, but there was plenty of space and it was quiet. Little traffic at night. Be careful not to park in the area reserved for the helicopter.Translating
So good!! Extraordinary view, quiet, room for everyone—what more could you need!Translating
Quiet, beautiful view of Lake Chambon. Perfect for heading down to Mont-Dore the next day.Translating
Very nice spot, beautiful view, extremely quiet.
Exceptional view. There are many of us, but nobody gets in anyone’s way. It is cool here, and in this heatwave that is perfect. Highly recommended.
Great spot!!! More than 10 spaces, facing the lake, idyllic place, no noise at night.
A superb place for the day, with hiking trails a little higher up, a peaceful night, and an opportunity to admire the sunrise over Lake Chambon.
Popular spot with a magnificent view. Many cars, vans, and motorhomes in the parking area and bends around it, but little traffic at night. No facilities, just a trash bin.
Four stars for the exceptional view. Otherwise, very busy and alongside the road. Quiet at night.
Very beautiful spot in the middle of nature, magnificent view. Do not park in the helicopter area.
Very large parking area, slightly sloped but manageable with leveling blocks. The view is excellent! Do not park in the section marked with H's on the ground; it is reserved for helicopters. An emergency medical helicopter landed there the day we were staying. Firefighters and police asked the vans and motorhomes to leave so the helicopter could land. We checked with the police, and there is no problem with spending the night here.
Large parking area below the road, little or no traffic, slight slope… We did not see a trash bin; we will take our rubbish with us! Superb place to add to your favorites!
Great place—now only a daytime parking area for campers. Residents spoke to us and directed us to the campsite in Mont-Dore, noting that the police now carry out frequent checks here.
Magnificent spot! Superb sunrise, plenty of spaces, but busy even in the off-season! Please take your rubbish with you!
Amazing view and plenty of room, so you are not cramped. However, you need to be prepared for wind. Be careful with pop-up roofs.
Plenty of space, sloped. Sheltered from the wind. Very beautiful view in the morning.
Very beautiful view, quiet. This place can be windy and cloudy.
