Chemin de Xurien Borda, 64310, Ascain
Been here?
This is a shaded parking area and hiking departure point for La Rhune, suitable for an overnight stop before an early walk. It is usually quiet until around 4 a.m., after which cars arrive steadily and the parking can fill by 7:30 or 8 a.m. No services are available, and access or turning is very difficult for campers L2H2 or larger. A river is nearby, with several hiking routes starting here.

Peaceful until 4 a.m.; after that, there was an endless procession of cars coming and going until late morning. We chose this spot for one transitional night before returning to the Loire-Atlantique region. It is better if you want to leave early for a hike than if you want a quiet night. We nearly got stuck with our Trafic because there is only one entrance and exit.
We spent one night in the van before hiking La Rhune. Very quiet and shaded, with a river nearby. Plenty of space at this time of year. A few cars passed in the morning, but it wasn’t bothersome!
Very quiet parking area; three vans slept there. Several routes start from here, so there is a lot of activity very early, around 4 a.m.; by 7:30 a.m. the car park was full. There are no services.
The site is nice, but there are Asian wasps.
It is not possible to use the parking area for those traveling in an L2H2 camper or larger. Turning around is very difficult, so it is better not to enter. If this applies to you and you want to do the route, there is an authorized area at the start of the road leading up to this parking area. Nevertheless, it is best to ask.
Shaded, quiet parking area, perfect for being on site for the start of the La Rhune hike. In April, we were the only van sleeping there, and early in the morning it filled up with very discreet hikers.
Great spot for vans because of the 2 m height barrier. Beside the river, which lulled us to sleep all night, but be careful in heavy rain. Perfect for starting the hike the next day. Note that this is the trailhead parking area, so park properly and leave the spot clean. :)
When we arrived around noon in the off-season, the place was quite full. With a little luck, we still found a nice spot. The hiking routes are highly recommended, and there is a small stream right at the site. We spent one night here.
A wonderful discovery of an unplanned hike up La Rhune! Parking at the start of several hikes and trails, so there is a lot of traffic until 11 p.m. and from 5 a.m., but it is a good place to stop, especially if you plan to go hiking.
We spent one night in this parking area in a converted car with several vans. Hikers set off from 4 a.m., which woke us up. At 8 a.m., when we woke up, the parking area was full. The spot is fine as a backup, but if you want peace and quiet, this is not the place. On the other hand, it is great if you want to start the hike early in the morning!
We entered the parking area with a 2.04-meter van and I would say there were still about ten centimeters of clearance above it. We did not stay overnight.
Great place, calm and shaded in the evening and at night. Four vans parked. At 9 a.m. there were more than 70 cars belonging to walkers.
The 2–3 spaces before the parking area are no longer available because they are blocked with a chain. In fact, in the morning it is better to arrive before 8 a.m. if you want a space, and park so you can leave, because people also park in the central aisle.
