Been here?
A large grassed parking area near sand dunes and a beach, with shops and amenities close by. The beach is about 2 minutes away, and the area suits dog walking, coastal walks and visiting the dragon. Some caravans remain for the summer, while music can occasionally be very loud during afternoons and evenings, though nights are generally quiet.

Very large parking. Several caravans seem to have installed themselves for the entire summer. Occasionally (very) loud music in the afternoon and evening, but quiet at night. Not a real problem to me. It's great to be able to stay the night for free so close to the beach.
Huge parking area divided into several large sections. A walking path. Little birds singing. Very pleasant!
Stayed here in Jan '26 ... no litter, no other campers, no inappropriate behaviour, just peace and quiet. This is an amazing spot for dogs to have a good run, to climb the dunes to watch the sun rise or set, to watch the waves crashing onto the shore or to visit the beautiful dragon. The walks over the dunes can be challenging but this little hidden gem would be great fun for kids.
A beautiful place right by the sea. Unfortunately, there is rubbish everywhere, and many people behave completely inappropriately, as if it were a campsite, with awnings and generators running until the evening. Please do not follow their example and behave appropriately.
Large, very level area. Quite a few dog walkers pass by, and some people park their cars there, but everyone keeps their distance. Unfortunately, there is a lot of rubbish, but the beach is only a two-minute walk away. We spent a quiet, safe night here.
Large car park behind a really beautiful beach! Bins are available. Very quiet. Surrounded by lots of animals. Really beautiful.
We never had the feeling that anything was wrong here. Along with three others, we spent a quiet, undisturbed night. Of course, dog owners occasionally drive here to walk their dogs, and horse owners bring their two horses for a ride. There is a lot of rubbish at the back, possibly because animals rummage through the overflowing bins.
Arrived at 6:30 to walk the dog. Plenty of parking along with plenty or rubbish in the carpark and on the beach. Didn't stay long as it looked like the type of place you get broken into. Beach is OK but nothing more.
Stayed one night. Gorgeous beach, a little spoiled by the amount of rubbish! Shared the car park with travellers, 5-6 caravans with dogs roaming and generators running until late. Loads of space and flat. Busy in the day with dog walkers and horse boxes.
Quiet night. Some cars came and went during the night, as in any other car park.
Great place! Drive on to the last car park, otherwise there is a lot of rubbish. Wonderfully quiet, beautiful surroundings, extremely suitable for dogs. More campers arrived later in the evening, and there were six of us. Plenty of space. Slept wonderfully.
Is a lovely place however there were lots of caravans there with generators running and animals outside. Went for a walk and decided to move on.
Excellent place to sleep, with plenty of space. There were about ten campers. I met two dogs.
Very popular spot, there were loads of motorhomes here, but fortunately the car park is massive. The beach is huge, there's vast grassy areas, it's a doggy haven! Sadly the bins were overflowing and some visitors were stopping in an attempt to tidy some of the rubbish that is everywhere. I had no trouble sleeping here. Very handy for new Troon ferry to Arran.
Lovely big park up area but it's also a travellers site. Lots of dogs roaming, in cage runs barking. We went for a wee walk to find the dragon, had a cuppa then because we had our dog with us we decided to find somewhere else. A real shame as it's a really nice place.
Great spot but unfortunately had someone knocking on door and flashing torch around van at past midnight last night. Didn't respond and they gave up, most probably youths mucking around but a disturbed nights sleep and unsettling all the same. Other vans around so wasn't too concerned and was probably just unlucky night, probably wouldn't park here alone though.
Excellent place to stop overnight. lots of dog walkers between sunrise and sunset but very quiet otherwise. Reasonably flat. Miles of great beach walks. visit the Dragon!
As described: quiet and free. The police were there briefly in the evening, but apparently there was no problem. From early morning, there were dog walkers and even some horse trailers. A visit to the nearby beach is recommended.
Brilliant find. I’ve saved this spot for future too! Huge free carpark next to the beach and sand dunes. A few other vans here and there was even people coming and going at night but they were no bother at all. No facilities other than a beach toilet further down the beach. My husband was playing golf at dundonald course so was a great place to stay.
Great spot near the beach which seems to be maintained as there were tyre and rake marks in the sand. Hard standing and loads of space. Very quiet when we were there. Loads of walks, mostly taking you to the beach.
