B9008, AB37 9EH, Tomintoul
Been here?
Free parking and a picnic area, with overnight stays allowed. There are four spaces, picnic tables and bins, while public toilets, shops and restaurants are about a 5-10 minute walk in Tomintoul. The site is flat and sheltered, with an active nearby road, although nights are generally quiet. It is also used for birdwatching, star viewing and walks.

Beautiful picnic/parking place for spending the night. Quite close to a main road, though. Otherwise wonderfully clean, with picnic tables available.Translating
Nice spot on a quiet road. Tables and bins available; toilet about 10 minutes away. Space for four motorhomes.Translating
As said there is place for 4 vans, but it gets full quite early. Regarding the dark sky spot we could not really enjoy it because there were a lot of midges. The road next to the site is quite active. Is flat.
Nice place for 4 vans. Full by about 4pm on a Tuesday mid September. Latecomers had to go elsewhere. Flat, close to village (<1km). Bins.
Great place to stay. We only did day parking before moving on. Walks aplenty. Dark sky viewing point.
Great place to stay for the night! Only 4 parking spots and only got busy around 10am. There’s a path with a 5 minute walk to the town nearby with free public toilets that were open. Great views and benches and a bird hide.
It's a place used by locals. There is no problem staying overnight, but would be very bad if all 4 spots are taken by tourists and that locals cannot park there anymore. The place is mainly a star and bird watching spot. It's close to the village and, during our stay, was a meeting point for friends who enjoyed the first non-rainy evening, or locals enjoying the bird watching spot in the morning.
Nice bays for 4 vans. 750m walk to the toilets in the town. Rubbish bin provided. Not much road noise
Nice quiet parking area with four spaces. The bird-watching trail and the small town of Tomintoul are especially lovely. There are public toilets 750 m from the parking area.Translating
Nice spot, but well used by walkers and bird watchers. It’s not fair to take up all 4 spots, so the locals can’t use it. The circular walk is good and plenty of other options from here. Didn’t stay overnight as we were joined by a noisy tent box family who set up camp all over the place.
Well-located and signposted spot. Unfortunately, it is too far away for cloudy skies, so it would not be worth it. No amenities; we were woken at 5 a.m. by helicopters and at 8 a.m. by those mowing the lawn opposite.Translating
4 spots, amazing place and very quite during the night, walking trails starting from there, picnic tables available
A perfect stopover in a very pretty area. 4 flat pitches, picnic benches and a 5 min walk into the lovely town of Tomintoul. No services.
Quiet for the night. No services.Translating
Quiet night, very windy, but okay for one night. Toilets are about 20 min by foot in a village. There is mostly no traffic in the night.
Really great for a free place for one night. Only four spaces, so it is worth arriving early.Translating
Good spot on the whisky route. Unfortunately, we had rain and wind. Thanks to the local council.Translating
We slept there last night. It is quite muddy but relatively flat, a few minutes' walk from the village-centre toilets, with a sink and hot water—very practical and clean enough. We had a great time watching birds in the nearby fields, with the observation hide providing shelter when it started snowing! Please leave it clean to preserve this spot :)Translating
It’s a nice spot, quite open. Not many spaces which are all really only car sized. Previous camper vans seem to have pretty much ruined the grass borders around the parking spaces leaving muddy tyre tracks etc, so only park here if your van fits otherwise I suspect overnight parking will be banned. If your van is too big to park here then there is good overnight parking at the bowling club.
Great place to stay for the night. almost flat, and very quiet. Nice walks nearby.
