Mountain trailhead parking, overnight ban

On July 8, the police came to the parking area in the evening to inform us that overnight stays outside official pitches are prohibited throughout the Tignes area. It apparently worked often in the past, but inspections will probably become more frequent in the future.

Overnight stays are not permitted here. We and several other motorhome travelers were sent away by the police on the evening of July 8, 2026.

At 7 p.m. on a Wednesday, the municipal authorities arrived. Camping is prohibited.

Unobstructed views of snow-covered mountain ranges on one side and the Aiguille de la Sassière on the other. Plenty of space, with two parking areas. Mobile reception and clean, well-maintained dry toilets in the parking area. No drinking water point. Very quiet. There were five vans in the parking area on Saturday evening when we visited, but it is possible to move away from the others for peace and quiet. Very pleasant spot.

It was perfect. We were the only motorhome, 7.40 m long, and there was one van overnight. A few cars during the day, although it was mid-June. The road is narrow, but there was no oncoming traffic on the way in or out around 10:30 a.m. We parked in the first lower parking area—excellent!

Starting parking area for the highest hikeable summit in Europe, the Aiguille de la Grande Sassière at 3,747 m. Expect a massive influx in July and August on fine days. Plan to go up before 8 a.m. and come down after 4 p.m. to avoid meeting vehicles on the access road. The road is narrow, but there are places where cars can pass. We saw an 8 m motorhome!

Large parking area that must be earned. The climb is steep and fairly narrow. It is very busy during the day, but the peace and quiet in the evening is wonderful. There are many beautiful things to do in the surrounding mountains.

Parking area with 150 spaces on three levels. You will not be alone during the high season. Nevertheless, it is next to a lake and a stream and surrounded by mountains. The view is superb. Hikers arrive around 5 a.m. to climb the Aiguille de la Grande Sassière. A hike you absolutely must do if you are in the area.

Toilets on site. Incredible view. Superb walk. At the Picheru pass, you can take a cross-country route once you reach the summit. Marmots and chamois are waiting to be seen. Enjoy!

Beautiful angled parking area, but one van parks across the space and puts out a table, chairs, awning, and a tent for its chemical toilet 10 meters from the perfectly clean dry toilets!

We came up with an L4 and found parking quite difficult; a smaller van would be better. I would not come with a motorhome if you want to park respectfully alongside the others. The road is not very wide, and in many places two vehicles cannot pass. Several hikes start from the parking area.

Excellent, incredible view. Dry toilets. No bins. More sheltered from the wind at the bottom.

Beautiful surroundings, clean composting toilets, but very busy. After 4 p.m. the parking area empties somewhat. At the foot of the hiking trails. Police came by, but there were no problems. A lovely place that must be looked after!
