Free harbour field, exposed conditions

Brilliant place ,awesome views ,unfortunately can sometimes be overrun with feral kids at holiday times .

Brilliant spot, owned by pub so please call in for food and drinks! Can't wait to return. Has toilet there as well as Elsan waste and drinking water tap. Very quiet overnight, slept well...a few others in motorhomes maybe not as considerate as you'd expect but all in all I will definitely be back!

A real gem. Flat parking with toilet disposal point, toilet and rubbish bins available. The local pub is fantastic, serving great food and a great range of beer with friendly staff and locals who enjoy a chat. Fair phone signal. The site is quite exposed so can be very windy.

perfect overnight spot! clean toilet , rubbish bins , water taps , black waste and right on the coast front with a 2min walk to the pub all for free!!

Large parking area beyond the small harbor with a view of the bay. Space for 12 campers. At the bottom of the entrance are a toilet, drinking water, cassette disposal, and rinse water. Waste containers. Poor 4G. A 250 m walk to St. Ninian Chapel toward the lighthouse.✦Translating

Brillant! Loved it. So worth the drive in and out, Dumfries and Galloway are definitely worth a look. I took a walk up to St Ninan’s , even in the wind and rain it was good. But you have to not mind wind, because it was windy, man was it windy, shaking my little van. But I found it comforting because I knew it was wind. And all the services are just brilliant.

Great flat area to park. Plenty of space for vans. Toilet and Elsan point were spot on/clean. And food in the pub was really good. Our first stop in here - we parked up just after 6pm and it was already fairly busy (Saturday eve)

So happy to read the reviews and delighted it’s still there . We used to visit in our Van when it wasn’t allowed to stay over. The Fairies used to take the signs down and let us have a lovely time in the Steam Packet Inn and stay the night. Fabulous news now we have a proper motorhome. Really looking forward to our next journey there.

Brilliant all rounder, views, walks, history, toilets, water, toilet disposal and a pub!

4 visits/6 nights from 7/2022. Last here on a very windy 11/4/2026. Still free. New toilet building still spotlessly clean since opening last Sept. Black water disposal/flush tap and freshwater tap (all free) alongside WC. In strong winds, slightly more sheltered at the rear of this large park up. Local Community Cafe closed during our visit, but shop part, limited opening. Support the pub.

Not much more to add than the other excellent reviews. This is a gem of a spot. Lovely pub with fantastic beers (special thanks to the landlady for being so welcome).

Great views, clean toilet, Elsan point and fresh water tap (unfortunately no grey water drain), and all absolutely free. At least it is if you don't count the cost of the excellent beer and food at the Steam Packet Inn, but then you'd be missing out. We'll be back, no doubt about it.

what a lovely setting. Right behind the pub on a large gravel car park with sea views. water tap and single toilet. Pub with very friendly staff.

Great location, we have stopped here around 5 times over the years, new gravel car park is great, but there was no room on sat 22nd or March, so we used the Elsan facility and went 15 mins up the coast to Monreith

Free stopover, new spotlessly clean toilet. All that’s asked is spend something in The Steam Packet Inn where there is a range of local beers and excellent food. We stayed Saturday 20 December and had a delicious meal. The dishes were the chef’s own creations with local ingredients. In a city it would have cost at least double. Check opening times before setting your heart on a meal.

I stayed here last summer when it was a slightly sloped field on the left of the entrance. It’s now moved to the right of the entrance and is a levelled gravel area overlooking the park. It’s a bit potholed and muddy in wet weather, but the views are beautiful and it’s a nice area to walk around. Only one other van there on a Saturday night in November. Quiet all day and night in winter.

We stayed here for two wonderful days and nights. What a beautiful, relaxed little harbor village. Thank you, Isle of Whithorn, for making this possible for motorhome users: a public, very clean toilet, a fresh water point, and a toilet disposal facility. There is also a container for disposing of rubbish. And the Steam Packet Inn pub has fantastic food and friendly chats with the local people.✦Translating

amazing stop over...lovely walks with fab views and a play park for kids to play at...we went into steam packet inn had couple of drinks and kids had bowl of chips n cheese which they said was delicious...dog was also welcome and staff were friendly and welcoming

What a stop!!!! Free parking with services and a clean toilet. Amazing view. The steam packet inn pub was fabulous, large great selection of beers from five Kingdom brewery. Food was fantastic. Very dog friendly and locals were all friendly also. Would definitely visit this village again

Visited 2 nights mid Sept 2025, 1x early Aug 2025, & July 2022. Huge thanks to the Steam Packet Inn for this free park up. All stone surfaced, level & good drainage. The brand new WC facility & Black Waste with flush water / Fresh water tap, completely free. Please help keep all clean. Litter bins on site, glass recycling at Community Centre. Food at the Inn is excellent, good choice of beers.

Great place to stop. All facilities provided by Dumfries & Galloway. Clean toilet, Elsan point and drinking water. 20 vans last night and not crowded. Steam Packet Inn is excellent.

Good parking overlooking the harbour, but location on the map is wrong (reported). New services installed and all working. Can get pretty busy so don’t arrive too late.

Hard standing patch for 6 or so motor homes overlooking the sea. Lovely views. Friendly pub nearby with good beer and good food. Drinking water available but facilities for grey and black waste currently out of action

Great spot, will be even better with the new services being built. The parking area does not have cellular reception, so not a great place to stay if you work remotely.

A smashing little park up, a new toilet building with Elsan point and fresh water supply are being constructed, parking for 10 loch view units plus many more, food in the Steam packet was excellent.

Been flattened but facilities now a single portaloo, no water or disposal. Sign on loo door with info on black water disposal.

Wonderful place. Work is being done on the facilities. There is still a toilet, drinking water and chemical disposal available. Site is gravel and mostly flat. Great beer and food in the pub. A great find.

Excellent park up with more facilities being built. The Steam Packet Inn owns the ground and asks only that you spend money in the hotel or community cafe. We were there 20 December and had a great dinner and beer from the local craft brewery

A place we have frequented over a few years. always been happy. Now Alistair has extended the parking, I honestly think he should install an honesty box to help with the emptying of the bins etc. I'm sure 9 out of 10 motorhomers would willingly donate for this wonderful....aire.
