167 Strada Guarda', 29010, Chiaravalle
Been here?
This free official motorhome area near Chiaravalle Abbey has a large green space, playground, calisthenics equipment, restaurants and public toilets. Grey-water disposal is available, and fresh water can be collected from nearby park fountains, but the black-water service is out of order; only one of four electrical sockets works. The area is convenient for a short stop and visiting the abbey. Highway, train and church-bell noise are audible, and recent reports describe nighttime activity and people walking around.

There are 3 motorhome spaces, but plenty of room for parking. The facilities do not work, but you can still empty grey water and fill up with water at the fountains near the park; the one toward the toilets has excellent pressure. You can hear the motorway, trains and bells… the abbey is worth a visit. Good Vodafone signal.
Perfect for a daytime stop. We enjoyed the playground and picnic area. We were able to empty our grey water and fill our fresh-water tank. The place is quiet, although you can hear the motorway. Recommended for a quick stop, as there is not much to do nearby.
I agree with the previous reviews for daytime use, but beware: we had a very bad experience at night, with lots of coming and going, suspected trafficking, and people walking around the motorhomes in the middle of the night.
One of the quietest areas in the region. Shaded for much of the day. There is a nearby playground where you can picnic, play or even do calisthenics. The fresh-water filling point and black-water dump are out of service, but there are two fountains near the park if needed. The grey-water dump works without problems.
Nice, quiet stopping area with electricity, although not all sockets work. Peaceful for one night while passing through, with basic services. Worth considering.
Excellent for a stop during a journey along the A1. You can take the opportunity to visit the abbey. A pity about the motorway noise in the background and the church bell ringing every half hour!!
Excellent for an overnight stop or visiting the nearby abbey. Quiet area with no passing cars, well lit, clean toilets, and a nearby bar and restaurant. Unfortunately, the service column for filling and emptying was still out of order; we filled up with water at the park fountain.
Great parking area, very quiet. The train and bell did not disturb us. Water, toilet and grey water facilities working; black water blocked. Thank you to the municipality for this support.
We stopped here while passing through on the way to Aosta Valley. Convenient and quiet area, as it is fairly set back from the main roads and motorways.
A nice, quiet place that can also accommodate larger motorhomes. We did not need the services. The bells stopped punctually in the evening when we stayed there. We used the place as a stopover for Livorno, 2.5 hours away, to secure a parking spot at the ferry port.
Level and quiet, but the bells never stop: they ring on the hour, half-hour and sometimes at quarter to, which I understand is only when there is Mass.
I would call it a car park, with only grey-water service. Trains run until 11 p.m. and can be heard clearly, while the bells are less disturbing.
Excellent stopping area, quiet and peaceful. At the moment it is not possible to empty the cassette, only grey water, and to fill with drinking water from a fountain beside the toilets.
We had a quiet night with 10 motorhomes. Apart from church bells, we heard nothing. Thank you to the municipality!
A pleasant stop among trees that provided some shade. Quiet. Unfortunately, the grey-water drain does not work, although it is still used without being able to rinse it, which consequently causes bad smells.
We spent a peaceful night here at the end of April. The monastery is beautiful and worth visiting. The village is small and quiet, there was one bar open with local people enjoying the evening. Good place for an overnight stop. We didn't use the services.
Official free overnight parking area directly beside a well-known Cistercian abbey. It was very quiet at night, with three other campers present, level spaces, grey-water disposal, partially defective electricity, and a public toilet. The playground and calisthenics equipment are in good condition, although the grass is very high. Overall, absolutely recommended for an overnight stop while passing through.
It is as described, but the dump station does not work and three of the four electrical connections are defective. Most spaces are in the sun and the playground has no shade. The grass area is neglected, the fountain is off, and the toilets are dirty. Nearby buildings are run-down and restaurants are closed. This place feels abandoned. It is not worth it.
Quiet location… one star deducted because the black-water facilities are unusable. The water tap does not work, but another working tap is 10 metres away. I do not understand the previous review about a fine; I think that fine is unrelated to this location.
Warning! On 7 June 2025, we drove toward neighbouring municipality 29017 Fiorenzuola. The fine arrived by post today: €67.10 because the vehicle was over 7.5 metres long! An expensive overnight stay.
Only three stars because they call it a motorhome area instead of a car park; otherwise I would have given it five. Quiet, level parking, with a fountain at the children’s playground. The motorhome filling and emptying facilities, paid for by taxpayers, do not work. On the positive side, the free Wi-Fi works.
The black-water dump is broken; only grey water can be emptied. There is a fountain for filling with water, but you have to move to another place, and if cars are parked there you cannot fill up. Overall, excellent for a stop.
We stopped for a lunch break during our journey. Parking about 20 minutes from the motorway exit, clean, with electricity, public toilets, a drinking-water fountain and a dump. Excellent if travelling with children because there is a playground. You can also visit the lovely adjacent Cistercian abbey. Recommended!
Travelling toward Naples, we found this spot beside the motorway. There are electrical hookups and water filling. Emptying works, and it is possible to visit the abbey.
Very nice place. We stayed overnight and visited the abbey the following morning. There is also a nice playground and lawns for running. The service station is currently NOT working; only grey water can be emptied. But there are fountains in the park for water if needed. We recommend visiting Salumificio Peveri, which has excellent local products.
Brilliant place for a lunch break with children, spacious grounds, relatively quiet—you only hear the trains—playground and exercise equipment. Picnic benches available. Certainly also a nice, practical place for one night while passing through. Filling and emptying facilities only work partially.
Very nice parking area. The service facilities were closed off, but otherwise it was really great, with a lovely playground, benches, a large meadow and plenty of peace. Many campers had their chairs outside, and no one seemed bothered.
A great place with a monastery to visit. We spent a very quiet night. Thank you to the municipality.
Perfect for a stop, quiet and restful. There are also a couple of bars and a beautiful monastery. I am not giving five stars because the services did not work.
Looks great as a free park up but the services weren’t working. There was a bag over the services post. You could drop grey waste but not black waste. Even if you had your own water to clean black waste cassette it was not clear where you can empty black waste. Some people had obviously emptied black waste through grid that is not meant to take it.
The ideal place for travelling through. I like watching the sun set behind the abbey. The osteria is within walking distance.
Perfect place for passing through. Everything you need is available. Quiet, lots of nature, a pretty monastery and a large playground. It gets busy in the evening. Thanks to this municipality for the great free place.
