Port Way, BA13 4SY, Bratton
Been here?
Hilltop parking near the Iron Age fort and White Horse, offering excellent valley views and beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The approach road is narrow, and the area is busy with dog walkers during the day. Nights can be disturbed by boy racers, loud music, engines and cars, especially at weekends, although some weekday stays are quiet. Parking is generally fairly level, with the east end receiving fewer cars.

Arrived 7.30pm, 4 vans here already. A few people in cars and more arrived later. Boy racers hanging out. None were offensive and had banter with some. Most left around 10. Cracking views and quiet Thurs morning. Best to stay at the East end, less cars there. Fairly level all over, but pick your spot. Summer now, so grass all dry and ok to stop on without damaging it. Windy up here, but lovely.
Absolutely stunning park up right next to the Iron Age fort & White Horse. Incredible views & beautiful sunset/rise. Very popular with vans & locals. Weekends seem to be the time boy racers come so best avoided. We were left in peace on a Tuesday night. A very welcome breeze here during a heatwave!
Lovely views but unfortunately as others have said boy racers appeared after dark, parked right next to my van and started blaring music for hours. In the end I gave up and went somewhere else.
We ended up moving to another location. Cars came and went all night, sliding around the area. Would not recommend it.
Stayed on a very wet Tuesday, but kids were again beeping and revving their engines. So annoying.
Great views, bins, overall a nice spot. 2* rating because of the endless boy racers setting off fireworks above my van in the middle of the night and doing doughnuts on the grass. this happened on both nights I was here. During the day endless dog walkers. Not a good spot if you're looking for peace.
Lovely stop, but I would not recommend it for overnight stays. Very exposed and windy, and then there are the boy racers screaming around until about 3 a.m., plus parties going on all night. We did not get much peace; we stayed but barely slept. In the morning dog walkers arrive from 5 a.m. and do not appear very friendly, banging on the van and telling us it is not a campsite, while blaming us for the litter left by the boy racers.
A very nice place! Extremely spacious for children to play. Flat grass.
Lots of space, a little windy because it is on top of the hill. Very peaceful.
Great place where we spent three nights. The noise from young people in their cars bothered us one night for a while; they were minding their own business and paid no attention to us. FOR MORE PEACE AND QUIET: After the parking area, at the end of the road, take the path on the right (Port Way), with two quiet pull-offs where you can enjoy the open meadow as well. A windy place, ideal for flying kites, with a slope for paragliding.
After reading the reviews, we did not know whether to go or not. THE ANSWER IS NO. Every evening, young people meet with their cars, making noise and playing loud music all night. We moved and went to the village below, parking in an open area in a residential village.
A very large gravel parking area with a beautiful view. However, it may not be ideal for weekends, as young people meet there with their cars late in the evening or at night, if you prefer peace and quiet.
it has a few pot holes. the modified car scene left at around 11pm. so not too bad. Nice safe place to let your dogs out. I would not recommend if you find noise an issue but our van is sound deadened. only tiny issue was dog walkers upsetting my dogs, causing them to bark at the crack of a sparrows fart. no toilets so you will need your own facilities (or a wild wee)
Oh well. I had planned to stay a couple of days here, including 2 nights. The first night (Friday) was interrupted at 0430hrs by the bass drums. Not a huge problem as I’m an early riser. By 1930hrs on Saturday evening the music had started… I left. Maybe it was the weekend, maybe it was the glorious weather, maybe it’s every night. Beautiful location; just have a back up if you plan to overnight!
