Exactly right for an overnight stop. Only sheep and cows, quiet, with birdsong. We were there at the end of June.
The parking area is as described, but now has automatic number-plate recognition and higher fees. Parking fees of 60 NOK per day or 20 NOK per hour are collected by the operator. Information about this was almost exclusively in Norwegian.
Perfect spot for XC skiing in winter. Huge car park that it flat and cleared of snow. Fills up with skiers during the day but silent at night. Very beautiful location and a short walk into the centre of Skeikampen (ski hire, cafes, supermarket). We stayed for a few days in February - just wonderful!
May 2022 .. ski resort is closed with lots of work going on but not noisy. We had intended on driving the Peer Gyntwegen but it was not open past Skei. We stayed 2 nights at the massive flat parking lot and were totally alone. No facilities but quiet and a great place to hike from and interesting seeing the ski village out of season but nothing was open.
Good rest area in the off-season, mid-September, completely empty, quiet, and free. No toilet or water. Wonderful starting point for hikes on the Peer Gynt Road, before the toll barrier.
