after a long drive this was a perfect spot yes the A9 is heard i would not say it disturbed me mind u I slept thru all the lorry's leaving early lol woke up and we were the last ones left! defo good pit stop.
The spot itself is fine, there is some traffic noise, but, just down the hill or through the woods is an amazing little restaurant (port-na-craig-inn) on the water just below the dam open 11-7. Nice garden (pitlochry festival theater) there is a really cool suspension walk bridge over the water to a great kids park with playground and skateboarding pool and rails. Don't just park and leave. :-)
The place is fairly good. It seems to be a regular overnight stop for truck drivers; about five or six gathered during the afternoon. It is very close to the road, so traffic is quite audible in the morning. It is simply a dead-end lane with no services of any kind.
Stayed at this location 1/10/2024 . I was woken at 1:00 A.M. by a drunken man knocking on my van door, what he wanted, I don't know, I couldn't understand a single word he said ( being 1:00 A.M. I'm assuming it wasn't anything good ). Fearing a return visit or possible vandalism I moved on ! and won't use this location again.
Good access to Pitlochry, with a toilet we could use in the nearby theatre. Although close to the road, we did not find it particularly loud. A good spot near the town.
The tourist information office directed us to this place. The only place for free overnight stays. However, it is a nighttime goods-transshipment area. Noise from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. Not a good place.
There is a small grassy area that could fit up to six caravans. It is beside the road, so there is some noise. No services, but very close to the town.
Great overnight spot, with permission from the information centre. We stayed for two nights because Pitlochry is a very pleasant and lively little town. It is true that there is traffic noise from the A9. You are not allowed to spend the night in a camper anywhere in Pitlochry. One more thing: the street name is incorrect. Enter Foss Road in your navigation and you will find it.
Plenty of other vans there. Some road noise from the A9 but reasonably sheltered.
