Nature parking, steep approach

The site is excellent for spending the night and as a starting point for cycling or hiking. The access road is unfortunately a real ordeal, but the no-entry sign is consistently ignored. There are rubbish bins, but nothing more when the restaurant is closed.

Really beautiful quiet spot with lots of walking trails and historic ruins near by. There is also a pub up the road. If you are looking to use this as a spot to get to Heidelberg town centre be prepared for quite the trek if you decide to go the short way.

A nice and secluded spot in amongst the trees in the hills above Heidelberg. The state of the road leading up here is appalling, and the roads through the town leading up to it are very narrow in places, not recommended for larger vehicles.

Large, mostly level parking area on the Heiligenberg. Very busy during the day; at night, ten motorhomes stayed. Many hiking opportunities with interesting destinations. A forest tavern and restaurant next door. Quiet at night, as the road is closed according to the sign from 1 to 6 a.m. The approach is steep uphill on a typical German pothole road. -Leave no trace-

Perfect for parking your car. I can imagine it is also nice to sleep here.

The restaurant (€€€) with large beer garden serving local game and good beer is just 100m up a slight hill after you park. Lots of ruins to explore beyond that, and good trail running. Access to this parking lot was no trouble despite a few commenters, I've seen worse potholes on Belgian highways. Starlink connection slightly obscured by tall trees.

It is a little complicated to get up there, even though we have driven on more difficult roads. However, it is worth it. Guaranteed tranquillity. We hesitated with other spots not too far away, but this one seems the best option. We are 20 minutes away from visiting the castle.

Nice place for one night. Very level. The area is excellent for hiking. The restaurant stays open late.

We stopped for one night in this quiet car park. In the morning we walked to see the ruins of two ancient monasteries and the amphitheatre. Cleaning up and using the available bin helps preserve the beautiful nature. Be careful when passing through the small village and on the patched road.

Please remember not to leave rubbish behind and not to leave toilet paper in nature, so that these overnight places remain available to us. Ideally, even take other people's rubbish with you. Thank you, and what a beautiful place! Somewhat crowded during the day because of hikers.

We made a stopover for a night. A beautiful view point of the castle and a beer garden are in walking distance. There were a few more campers and cars so it wasn’t too scary but i would not stay there alone overnight. Some weird cars came during the night around 12pm, 2pm and 3pm and they even was yelling, which was quite scary but other than that, they didn’t do anything else.

Very narrow and long approach, very steep, and the ground is covered with potholes. Very busy. I did not find it relaxing. Yes, the forest is beautiful.

Great, quiet site at the top of the mountain, unfortunately without a view, but situated in the forest. You reach it through a historic district with narrow streets. The steep mountain road with a hairpin bend is full of potholes. Secure your glasses in the cupboard!

Good place to spend the night. Very quiet and secluded. Somewhat uneven, but we were very satisfied.

The place is idyllic and quiet in the middle of nature, ideal for walks. After a steep, bumpy climb, you reach a spacious car park with a great view of Heidelberg Castle from the nearby observation tower. A cosy restaurant is also only a few minutes away. Despite several campers, people respect the quiet; camping behaviour is not welcome.

The climb is steep, with one kilometre of very poor road at the end. The place is nice but sloping. The viewpoint is 50 metres up a tower with a superb view. With a 7.5-metre vehicle and trailer, it is not recommended; we went back down because we were too worried about getting out.

Well, I seem to be the only one who is not so enthusiastic. I expected that view at the car park, but it cannot be seen anywhere. You are surrounded by a beautiful forest, but there are no vistas, and it is very busy.

Superb place in the middle of the forest! We loved it. Quiet night in nature; the ruins around it are incredible. It is perfect for visiting Heidelberg while staying peaceful.

Very good and quiet place to sleep. No problems at all. I slept here in the summer, and it was great not to wake up because of the car getting too hot. Fun fact: there where two hearses parked.

Beautiful, quiet car park. Great view of Heidelberg Castle from the observation tower, open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The path there and to the Thingstätte takes only about five minutes from the car park and is easy with a pushchair. The restaurant/beer garden, two minutes from the car park, also looked very nice. The approach through narrow streets is manageable for 6-metre campers; through the forest it is bumpy but paved.

Very peaceful and lovely place to stay overnight. Lots of woodland paths around the car park and great view of the castle. Would definitely come back!

Very bumpy road until you reach the top; drive carefully. First you have to go quite a distance through the old town and narrow lanes. But once you reach the forest, it is an excellent camper site.

I arrived in the evening and was the only vehicle. Super quiet place, with a beautiful morning walk offering panoramic views and an excursion to the amphitheatre.

Narrow and bumpy approach, but manageable. No reception! We spent the night here with five other campers. Totally quiet and dark. Rubbish bins available. Great area with a beer garden, castle and ancient amphitheatre! Many people come here to hike.
