24 Oberbalmberg, 4524, Oberbalmberg
Been here?
A large gravel/forest car park at 1078m above Oberbalmberg, next to a rope park with children's playground and free BBQ/picnic tables. Free toilets stay open at night, and the paid parking machine has been broken for a year, so it is currently free. Very quiet at night despite daytime crowds from the rope park; nights can be cold even in summer. The south approach from Solothurn is easy, but the north side via Welschenrohr is steep (up to 25%), narrow with hairpin bends, and closed in winter - vehicles over 5.6m length or a certain size are advised against it. WiFi and mobile signal are weak.

Due to current circumstances: observe the no-entry restriction for vehicles over a certain size from the north side! Narrow and steep hairpin bends.Translating
There are three parking areas. The spot on the map is the highest of the three. If you only want to stay one night, I wouldn't go there with a motorhome because the road is treacherous. Lots of traffic and doors slamming until midnight in the upper parking area. A cruising spot? Very poor Wi-Fi signal too.Translating
This place is perfect for spending one night. Arriving via Welschenrohr is not recommended because the road is very narrow, with gradients of 25%. The parking is paid from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., but the payment machine has been broken for a year, so it is free! Toilets nearby, children's playground, picnic table and free fire pit at the adventure park. I recommend this place.Translating
Super quiet spot. Ideal starting point for morning walks.Translating
Very, very beautiful! Quiet and with a nice toilet. Free.Translating
We parked here for one night in June and it was super quiet! Relatively large parking area in the forest, with a beautiful viewpoint three minutes away via the path by the climbing park. Paid from 8 a.m.; we left at 7:30 and there were no visitors yet. Beautiful! Access from the village of Welschenrohr is quite difficult; from the other side it is easy.Translating
Spacious, flat area. We paid nothing. Quiet once it got dark (no more motorcycles or tractors, climbing park closed). Recycling container for glass available. A beautiful viewpoint after a three-minute walk. Perfect starting point for hikes or bike tours. The mountain pass road is challenging with a motorhome. The postal bus runs only once an hour. Try to travel at the same time to avoid meeting on the road.Translating
