Been here?
A basic, almost level overnight parking area beside sports fields and children’s play areas, with activities including football, basketball and a skate park. There are no services unless you use the adjacent sports hall, where showers cost £2 per person. The A1 motorway can be heard, though recent stays reported little night noise, and the area feels safe.

Great spot. If you can hear the motorway then your hearing is better than mine, no facilities unless you use the sports hall adjacent. Basic, almost level, felt very safe and gym attendees and dog walkers were all very friendly.
Perfect overnight parking spot without any services. The motorway can be heard, but it was fine. Ideal if you need to take the ferry from Newcastle—a good place to rest beforehand. I will gladly return. And please remember to leave everything clean.
A good place to stay for the night and to visit the town. The grounds are great to walk round and there are activities for the kids. There was little noise at night despite the proximity of the A1.
A lovely place to spend a night. We tucked ourselves away in a corner. The town has everything you could need. The sports facility is a charity so we left a donation for our overnight stay. Also, for £2 per person you can use their showers. Essential to be respectful and leave no trace. We will return.
Perfect overnight parking spot without any services. Only the motorway can be heard slightly (if you are sensitive to that, choose another place).
Nice parking lot and not busy at all. No bad experience with noisy people (it was a Wednesday night, don’t know about weekends…) Right next to a sports park, don’t know about toilets but there are bushes and trees if urgent. Close to A1, not loud at all but a slight background noise.
Arrived 11pm, left 7am - a sports centre car park - no services but ideal for a tucked away discreet self-contained overnight sleep stop not far off A1. It was a very clear and frosty night so that might explain the road noise travelling which was a bit disruptive to sleep. Sports centre car park located in a residential area so important not to misuse in case residents complain/barriers go up.
Super quiet night after the footballers left. Morning dog walkers and people using the filed but all together a great spot for the night.
We arrived around 6 p.m. Shortly afterward, two teenagers/children came by. At first they only asked intrusive questions, but later they began harassing us and climbing onto our moped, which was still on the bike rack. When we then tried to leave, they followed us through the residential area, jumped onto the moped again while we were driving, and filmed our van. Perhaps this place should be avoided for the time being.
Large, quiet parking area. You must park carefully to respect the people who come here to exercise. The parking lot fills up quickly but empties just as quickly. Bin available. Good for a stopover.
Fantastic spot that we've used 3 times now. There are bins around the park, the centre has public toilets. Can be busy with kids sports and parties at the weekend from experience. A few good parking bays onto a grass verge for overhang and we can get a 6m boxer with bikes and we've seen a 7m van do the same. Shops, chippy and pubs are about a 10 minute walk away
Just off the A1, used as a stop when traveling to Scotland. The car park was empty by 9 p.m.; there is a park area for dogs. Five-minute walk to a few shops and takeaways. The car park was level, and if you are over 5.5 m long, you can overhang onto the grass to fit in the bays. No height barriers or signs. Please act responsibly; we do not want to lose a convenient parking spot.
