Back Lane, DE6 2GW, Ashbourne
Been here?
A very small high-level parking spot in the Weaver Hills with remarkable 360-degree countryside views. It is generally peaceful, with room for about 2 campers, although passing cars and occasional boy racers can make nights noisy. There are no facilities, but phone and television signal are excellent, public footpaths are nearby, and a farm shop and café is one mile away.

Really great spot! Room for 3 vans close together if people squeeze up. We were gutted we came when it was foggy and had to leave early before it cleared and so will definitely be coming back to see the views. It was full on a Saturday night but respectful residents. You could maybe squeeze more vans on the grass verges around but they are not level.
The most beautiful camping spot we’ve ever found! Incredible views and quiet. Had a couple cars pull up in the middle of the night but I imagine it was just a one off
Just left. Was lovely and quiet in the day but soon as night fell it was car after car until around 10 when boy racers turned up and they were loud.
beautiful place very quiet no light pollution at night very small parking space just enough for 2 campers. excellent phone and tv signal close to public footpaths ideal for dog walking
Arrived at 9:30pm. 3 other cars here admiring the view. All very quiet. A few passing cars. The view here is amazing. Well worth a stay!
Very peaceful location with great views. Fairly level, best on the left as you drive in (you can use the grass verge to level the van). Ideal for one night. No facilities, but there is a farm shop&cafe one mile down the road in Wootton.
Stayed here for one night and had the spot to ourselves other than a car that pulled up briefly before leaving (I imagine to admire the view). Surrounded by sheep & lovely countryside views. Quiet road overnight after around 9pm until the morning.
Great park up with amazing views all around! Lots of sheep; didn’t see any cows like others mentioned but depends when you’re here I guess. Couple cars pulled up, just people eating lunch and enjoying views. And one other van stayed overnight alongside us. I picked up 3 pieces of litter (as you do) and that’s all that was here, but otherwise spotless!
Incredible 360 views very quiet after 11pm and good phone signal. The roads leading are a little steep and very dark if arriving late, DO NOT follow the postcode we ended up in some very very narrow residential roads in pitch black.
what a lovely find, it was so peaceful the views are spectacular. we were the only van and some more cars parking in the middle of the day and some hikers. loved it! overlooking horses and sheep near the van in the morning
incredible views to wake up to. we did encounter some boy racers until about 11:30 but a very peaceful night
more space available for nimble little vans up on the grassy bit by the tiny parking space
A place with beautiful views. A few cars come down for sunset, but at night it is quiet and peaceful.Translating
On Christmas Day there was a lot of traffic on the road, including boy racers who stayed between 9pm and 11pm. The night was quiet afterward, followed by a beautiful sunrise. Several cars came looking for parking in the morning. The ground is muddy at this time of year.Translating
I love this spot. normally deadly quiet after 10/11 o'clock. although I'm currently here for half term and the traffics been horrendous. I don't understand why other people in campers have no consideration for those who are clearly trying to sleep!
Beautiful but small park up. So a couple vans or one larger camper could fit. There is cattle so dogs on leads but miles of walks to be had. A peaceful night and not much traffic bar the odd farm vehicle. No litter here (we usually do a litter pick) but here is clean and lovely. Well done van peeps!
As another person stated there are cows around in the field, but we didn't find them a problem, they licked the van a bit then lost interest. It provided entertainment for my cats who travel in the van with us so it wasn't an issue! Lovely views.
If there are cows in the field, they are licking, rubbing heads and generally trying to dislodge anything loose from your vehicle. We tolerated it for a while, until the mahoosive bulls arrived. Decided to move on. Fantastic views, flat and gravel/hard-core, but no good unless field empty.
Very nice view and space for about three vehicles. It was quiet enough for me for one night. Would use again!Translating
Stayed on a Monday night. No boy racers of any sort, very few people or cars passing. Lovely views. Good signal.
Great place to park, we did have young people in a car next to us but they soon left but kept coming back and pressing their horn to try to intimidate us. we ignored them and they soon left us alone for a very quiet night's sleep
Left in the middle of the night. Locals don’t seem to like people staying. Someone has dumped enough rubbish at the North end of Back Lane to close the road to anything other than off road vehicles driving around. We were then woken by people who had been listening to music in their car away from us, not a disturbance, but then drove next to us and blared the horn for minutes solidly.
Beautiful panoramic views from the park up. Had a lovely quiet night up here. A couple of kids Parked up when we arrived at 10:30 but gone by 11:00 and no issues.
A great place to camp. amazing views. A couple of cars with some youngsters in, drove up, but they didn't disturb us. we stayed on the gravel part and managed to get levelish with another couple of campers. someone parked on the grass mound on their own. didn't seem to be space for more with them.
real gem of a spot. you are really up amongst the clouds. the wind up here is something else but worth it for the view. couple of bars of signal on o2 but we spent more time staring out the window than looking at the phone
What can I say, the views at this point are absolutely stunning. Space for two in gravel but plenty more on the grassy bit before it. Reversed into the gravel spot, back doors open to spectacular views. This is what vanlife is about. a few cars coming and going, we had boy racers getting giddy with their horns and doing donuts, soon left. Nice walk in AM met some horse and cows. Recommend to all!
